Default 88 924s removing transaxle and clearance

88 924s
Getting ready to put a new clutch and everything is disconnected and a torque tube all on bolted. The issue I see is the shifter tube is further in than the transmission can be brought back how do I do this? Motor mounts are new so drivetrain is pretty level do I remove the motor mounts and drop the motor a little? I read something about turning the shifter rod 90° and pushing it forward willl it push forward far enough to clear the housing?

There's a block of foam around the shifter in the cabin, you need to shove it through the foam. Once you do, it will easily slide forward enough to clear the trans.

The tranny wont pull straight back because it will hit the spare tire well. You need to sort of twist it down and slide it out. Its tight and you wont havr enough clearance unless the TT/tranny coupler is slid all the way forward.

I've always had a way easier time pushing it backward onto the trans input shaft.

Also, make sure that plastic dust cover tube is free and clear when you lower it.

I recommend you use two jacks( front and back of trans) and/or have a buddy help control the descent - it makes logistics a lot easier.

You've got it backwards buddy, the coupler slides back.

Remember, *** end down first, then slide out and down.

I can get a trans out in about 30 min.... Lots and lots of practice!
