iirc there was only one cab made that wasn't an S2, turbo or 968. A company called Bauer was commissioned by the factory to make a concept for the 1985 Frankfurt Motor Show. So that car is a 1of1 if it's that car. Or it could be a frankencar that someone created from parts.

There was a Bauer 944?! Was it traditional Bauer style in that the b/c/d pillars remained? Id love to see pics of it, I like the old Bauer BMW's.
That NA in the first post looks great! I like the wheels too. I have seen another NA vert, but it was another custom job.

Its a custom kit. I know because I had one. (see my avatar) There were a couple of conversion companies back in those days. My 1986n/a was converted in 1987. A Gemballa body kit was also added at the same time. My cloth top had side windows which made driving visibility easier. The roof over the doors is a removeable targa top. You can drive around in true targa style or drop the rear roof for full on convertable driving.

However, it does look like it may be a rare SKV conversion. There are pics of the original brochure somewhere.

There were at least two Targa proposals: one had just B-pillars and a completely different rear roof, another retained the factory B- and C-pillars as well as the hatch. The full cabrio models of course had no B- or C- pillars, at least three were made.
In the end, I think ASC got the contract.

Thanks for sharing! Man I want a cab so bad. I really did the rare conversions! I do like that ASC built the cars with reinforcement, I wonder if the other conversions did similar modifications.

Here is mine. mhr. Yes I sold the car. I found I was not driving it enough, so it was time to go. I do miss it sometimes.
As for questions of the reinforcements. Yes mine had plenty. The doors had a brace, and the inside rockers were different and had extra steel all the way to the firewall from the rear wheel well. I never really noticed it much until I looked closer and compared it to normal 944's. It was pretty stiff. I could jack one wheel up and still open the doors nicely. The targa roof rattled, as it used large sliding pins similar to T top pins on other cars to hold it in place and used additional clamps inside to keep it locked.
