Got a 944 hatch from a parts car. I've removed the glass and I am replacing it with Lexan from Lindsey Racing. Used a propane torch to help separate glass from frame. Used a metal buffing wheel to clean up the frame. The frame being aluminum, I won't bother painting it or otherwise prepping it.

Just finished drilling holes in the Lexan and tapping holes in the frame. Will use silicone for weatherproofing, but will hold Lexan to frame with machine screws. Won't have to worry about that ever separating! Will post pics at some point.

Are you ready for the weight balance change? that removes a good amount of weight from the rear which will give the car more of a front weight bias.

Mark:
If you don't mind me asking what did this cost + shipping to MD? I'm considering doing the same and have priced out Five Star @ $325.

As far as the weight shift is concerned will it help to relocate the battery to the spare wheel well to make up for the rear weight loss? I read somewhere (on the internet....lol) that the glass to Lexan swap is a 26 lb. weight saving.

I got the 3/16" thick, already cut to size. The manufacturer is Five Star. Paid ~$380 for the window, and about another $120 for shipping. The fit is right on, and the quality looks good as far as I can tell.

Wish I could say that I'm a sharp enough driver to notice the loss of ~25 lbs!

On a personal note I oversteer since I left High School. It's the extra 25 lbs. But since it came on slowly it wasn't too noticeable.

Seriously though I would be interested in coming to have a look at it. Send me a PM and let me know what your schedule looks like over the next few weeks. Alternatively come to Cars and Coffee on a Saturday morning between 8-11 this summer. Not just so I can see the hatch mind you as there's a great turnout every Sat morning a vast variety of great vehicles.
