Those of you with LS Engine Swaps
As some of you know I'm in the process of buying parts and a car to do a v8 swap. My question is how much hood clearance do you have left with the LS engines? I need as close as possible measurement as I wish to try a somewhat different approach. Thanks for your assistance.

putting a carb on an LS motor is like taking a **** on an apple pie.
just dont. its not worth the hassle of trying to make it right.
EFI is so much nicer in every imaginable way than carbs.

+1, hate when I see people talking about that downgrade, there is literally never a situation where carbs are better than EFI, its just plain not as good. Less MPG, less power and torque, less driveability, ect.

Run a carb if you want, but don't use hood clearance as an excuse. I dropped my crossmember down 1/4 inch, ground the forward ridge of the throttle body and cut out and boxed the hood support over the throttle body. I now have 3/8 inch clearance to the hood in that area. The hood clearance issue is manageable. However, do the carb if you want. I'm sick and tired of people telling us what we can and can't do with OUR cars! Educate yourself on the pro's and cons, and if running a carbed LS1 944 is what you want -GO FOR IT! Keep us posted.

The wiring is one of the easiest parts of the swap. Save yourself the trouble and get a standalone engine harness from a place like PSI.. you only need to hookup a handful of wires, most of which are grounds, switched 12v and constant 12v.

I don't fear the wiring at all, I just like playing with stuff and doing it a little different than the norm. Both carbs and efi have their benefits and I have seen several dynos where carbs had more hp but efi had more torque.
Microsquirt has a standalone system for LS swaps with harness and computer very reasonable. I am pricing out the swap now and will decide shortly.

Generally I like FI, but carbs can be very good as well. In offshore boats carbs are still very common and often make more hp. Mercruiser still hasn't come up with an FI 454 that makes as much power as their now defunct carb'd 454 made (420). FI'd Lites class motocross bikes also still struggle to perform on par with the exact same motor fitted with an FCR. FI done really well is better than a carb done really well, but it's a lot harder to do FI really well.
