Thanks! Its getting there. Still needs a whole bunch honestly. The most expensive thing it needs is a new clutch. The rubber on the disc is separating and I'm getting a vibration because of it. Parts wise, it will cost me more to do that than the timing belt and paint put together. Now, throw a new water pump in there and I think we are over the clutch amount. Pump seems fine though.

Got my new shift boot in the mail today and plan to install it. I will be sure to post pics as well!

Original slave cylinder failed last week. Lasted 30 yeas and just shy of 150k miles. Not too shabby. I replaced it with an FAE brand slave cylinder and all is well again!

Car looks great keep the updates coming! Don't forget to change those fuel lines! Loves these types of posts where people restore them instead of parting them. Can't believe you traded a running Vette for a non-running 944 though. I bet that seller was more then thrilled with that offer! Any pictures of the Vette you traded? Definitely curious about condition on that one.

What leather shift **** kit did you go with? I'm surprised no ones asked this, but are all those cars in your driveway yours? I'm trying to build a case against my wife on why "car guys" just can't have a few cars and I'm thinking you could definitely help my cause!

Great progress Dave. Good to see it coming along. Maybe we will get to see our latest projects at 944Fest next year - assuming it returns to its proper place of Nelson Ledges.

Dan, I found this car on craigslist and a couple things jumped out at me when I saw the pics. First, the car came with Fuchs wheels and the FULL cloth covered script seats. I asked for a pic of the option's sticker and found that the car also had the M456 suspension. I really didn't have the extra cash for another car and I had this 84 Corvette that I had started to restore. I got the car free and it needed an engine. So, I had about $1000 in parts and machine work in the engine. I drove the Corvette for a little bit but it was an automatic and the car really didn't do much for me. I built the engine a little too strong for the trans I suppose and after the trans started slipping I parked the car. The car needed paint and interior work and had some electrical issues and was a big project. One that I really didn't want to get into at any time soon. So I sent the kid some pics of the Vette and he instantly agreed to trade me straight up. So, i loaded the Vette and drove to Indiana and swapped him.

Sounds crazy right? Well I didn't think so. The Fuchs on the 944 were worth $1000. There's my cost in the Corvette, so the trade for me was even right there. And how many 944's do you see with full cloth scrip seats? Not too many. And the M456 with original Konis? For me it was a no brainer. The kid really didn't know what he had. Yes, the car is a major restoration effort, costing much more than the value of the car. Bur the car spoke to me and I felt that it deserved to be restored properly. It was nicely optioned and mostly unmolested.

Now, the cars in the driveway. All of the cars in the driveway are mine. It drives my wife nuts and she constantly complains about the cars. I suppose if she understood the emotional attachment to the cars she would see things my way. She tolerates the cars I suppose. But I also have two customer cars here and my uncle's boat and those are putting a cramping on the space. Perhaps once those are gone she'll back off a little bit.

Love the period correct 80's mesh style wheels on the Vette. Are they fake BBS RS's? As long as your happy with the trade you did well! Too bad you couldn't keep them both.

They were BBS knock off's. Made by a company called ARE. American Racing Engineering I think. They were still three piece wheels and quite nice. I hated to let them go but I didn't have anything to replace them with. I have another Corvette that I quite like. I have a 94 6spd Corvette. It has the LT1 and Bose and FX3 electronically adjustable suspension. Its an awesome machine so letting the 84 go wasn't a huge loss. Plus I would have rather had the 944. If the 84 was a 4+3 car instead of the automatic, I probably would have just paid the guy for the 944 and kept the 84 Corvette.

I got into Corvettes about 8 years ago. I met a guy that was a Corvette racer and began autocrossing with him in Corvettes. I developed quite a high level of respect for Corvettes. So, I bought my first Corvette, an 84 4+3. Loved the car but due to a pregnancy, my wife advised I sell the car. Worst mistake that I have ever made. Its the car that got away. I know where it sits and my buddy has contemplated selling it back to me. Its condition has deteriorated but I honestly miss the car. Who knows what move I'll make, but I want the car back. I got that black 84 as a replacement, but it was never going to be good enough, so trading it off wan't a huge deal. Here are a few pics of my first Corvette when I owned it:

Very nice! I'm a big fan of those digital dashes in the 80's Vette's! I hear they can be problematic if they haven't been repaired.

The red one is really nice. Must have been a hard decision to let the first one go! Looking forward to the updates on your 944. :thumb:

Which one is quicker the black Vette or the 944? Just curious? The 84 Crossfire I was in was rather disappointing in terms of quickness. Felt like a 7-8 second 0-60 but the car was kinda ragged.

In a manual transmission 84, the 0-60 is quoted as 6.7 seconds. On par with other faster cars of the time period, but not very quick by today's standard. The 84 Corvette felt quicker than my 944. Somewhere I have an acceleration video of that black Corvette.

I did get the lower radiator hose installed and it seems to have fixed my coolant leak. I ordered a Gates brand hose previously from Napa and the hose was too short. The one I got from 944online was perfect and installed without issue. Took some pics of my old hose to show everyone why it was leaking. Appears as if it burst at some point and someone cobbled it together with a plastic coupler and some clamps. I couldn't see it until the hose was removed.
