Default Rear hatch tie downs

I've done some searching, but have found no answers...

I would like to figure out a way to add tie downs for the rear hatch, primarily to prevent the hatch popping open should I go agricultural backwards off track. (I'm certainly not planning on it, but sometimes preventative planning pays off!)

I'm thinking of something along the lines of the front and rear hood and engine covers some older 911's sport. (See picture.) The problem is the wing is rubber and I really can't figure out a solid way to mount the upper end of the tie down.

Are there any ideas out there?

What about figuring out a way to attach it to the hatch pins?

Attach it to the bolts that hold the hatch pin mounts to the hatch frame

RastaMonsta over on the 924board used those on his Spec944 924S:

He's on here as well, so maybe he'll chime in.

This is in line what I was thinking but even better because the entire assembly for the hatch pins and such as been removed thus reducing weight.

Yep, all four ounces of weight removed!

Well if you had really thought before you posted you'd realize removing the pins, the hatch latches, all the cabling and wire, the release handle and every associated, it'd be a lot more than 4 ounces.

For a race car, having to deal with potentially finicky latches and keys when you want to refill the rear-mounted fuel cell would be highly annoying.

Also, in the case of a hit to the rear the hatch may not pop-open, which could be very helpful.

I have the same set up on my SP1 car and love it.

This is obviously a great solution, but now that I've looked at it maybe it's not for me. Since my car is not a dedicated track car, the lack of a way to lock the hatch is an issue.

I wonder if I could fabricate a bracket which would fit around the hatch pins? Also, in a minor concern, the tie down location would interfere with the 944S2 logo.

I still think that a solution can be done using the hatch pins. If aesthetics are a concern then possibly something internal that could be easily accessed from inside the car.

BTW, are you going to cars and coffee tomorrow?

Just modify the stock lock to use a handle instead of a key.

I used these British pieces (originally seen on the factory 968 racecars):

The upper part is mounted directly to the 968 version of the hatch hold-down plate--there's plenty of space to work with.
