I am pissed (very pissed) at the way GM customer service is taking care of a few runs in the paint on my $37,000 silver Aurora. They will send me to arbitration at the BBB, or repaint the 4 areas, which my cousin who is a GMI graduate, and currelt GM engineer says will make it worse!
My friend is giving back a 2000 A6 2.7T with about $6,000 of options (msrp about $45,000) and 21,000 miles. The purchase price is $25,500, and Audi is giving a two year warrantee.
My Aurora has almost 5 years on the warrantee (not that it's worth much i am learning).
Who has had experience with higher mileage turbos, and the quattro system. I don't want to get stuck with major repairs/bills with the Audi in a few years (like the $6,000 i just put into the S2 motor). My mechanic works for me in his spare time, and because of time constraints is not comfortable taking apart twin turbos, or 4 wheel drive systems, he is comfortable with the northstar V8.
Anyone with war stories, good or bad, please post before I trade a new master bathroom for additional car payments.

You should check out Audiworld.com for some good real world feedback. The 2.7 t is the same motor as in the S4. There were some issues with the turbos in teh S4 going south especially when chipped. The A6 is ussually driven much more conservatively and teh engine compartment is a little larger to keep hieat issues down somewhat. The A6 is beautiful car but if you want to avoid any repair bills you should steer clear of the Audi, it is expensive to fix and much of the electronic stuff is way over a shade tree's head. Now the 1.8t is a great motor, very bullet proof and well engineered. Go for it in a Passat and you have almost every thing you want in an A6. Oh, the qauattro driveline is stout, no issues with it that I am aware of

Most Audis I know of that are very reliable up until 250.000 km's or more, but just as on Porsches parts are expensive.
I don't know very much about GM cars but perhaps there are good reasons why they are almost impossible to sell in Europe.

I just sold my Audi S4 2 months ago, the 2.7l Twin turbo motor is awesome but Hank is right about the turbo's, if you chip you have around a 50% chance of frying one or both turbo's (I fried both of mine then I blew the tranny - too much torque).
If you keep them stock they will run reliably for around 80-100k miles before you need to replace the turbos.
By the way, the cost of parts and labor on the Audi's is very comporable to the Porsches - it's quite expensive.
All I can say is if you buy the car don't modify it or they Audi of America will void your warranty.. If you do chip it keep a stock ecu handy and change out the chipped ecu before bringing it in for service (you will also need a vag com to clear the codes after changing out the ecu). Drop me an email if you want more info, I had a 2001 S4 for 1.5 years and know quite a bit about the motor.

this is the baby hauler, no chips other than the crumbs in the back seat. i just want to get about 100k miles without major repairs. i know the northstar can do it with maybe an alternator, but am not sure the twin turbos driven conservatively can.
i'm not sure i want to get rid of a car with 12k miles on it for one with 21k, and add $$$ to the loan. especially with the economy as bad as it is.

I have had a number of Audis and they really got good with the A4 model. The turbos fail in S4s when chipped because they are overspun and/or not properly cooled down. My latest Audi 96 A4 has been a very reliable car and currently has 100k on it with no major issues. I'd upgrade to the A6 2.7T in a minute.

I've got 54K miles on my S4 with no turbo problems (chipped for about 30K miles now.) If you search on Audiworld you can find lots of stories of blown S4 turbo's, but most of those cars have been driven very hard.
My understanding is the A6 2.7T has not had problems like the S4, but a search on Audiworld would give you more info. Our 2.8 NA A6 has 75K miles and has been very much trouble free.

munson,
37k for an olds beats 45k for the Seville, which is basically the same car! who says i paid that for the car. you didnt pay much less for your sentra then i paid for a two tons of luxory sports cruiser with a big ol V8. the car handles great, but.
thanks guys, but, the trade in was obnoxiously low, so i will live with crappy gm dealer service, and worse gm customer service. friends tell me my problem is i expect gm to treat me like Acura did. keep dreaming! mechanically the car is excellent, it drives great, just little QC issues the company is unable to deal with.
if i ever buy a gm product again it will be their cheapest car.
