Default Why is this bolt in my bellhousing baggie?

Hi All,

'83 944, I'm reinstalling my freshly rebuilt engine into the beast.
While I was cheerfully OCD while working on the long block, I have found I was a bit less so when it comes to accessories and things that bolt on to the long block.

I came across the below bolt/washer/bracket thingy while fitting the bellhousing back on today and cannot for the life of me work out what it's for.
This is the 3rd bolt of this size (plus the two long ones for the bellhousing)

Any pointers would be appreciated

I think it goes on the drivers side and there's suppose to be a rubber and metal clamp that holds the hard line of the slave. Keeps it from doing its own thing. I think.*

I agree with Hicks - it's probably to support the slaver cylinder line. Where is your clutch master cylinder? I'm assuming your car is right-hand-drive?

For the rest of the world, there's a bracket like that on one of the 4 torque tube-to-bell housing bolts.

Really? I don't think I've ever seen such a bracket.

Great info, thanks all.
I'll have an eyeball of the engine bay tonight and see if I can work out which bolt it should go onto.

The other problem I get to work out is why I have a spare bolt...

it could also go on other side to hold the tube for testing the mixture that is always broken and discarded

Fortunately, my car was never fitted with one of those to the best of my knowledge, nor with an O2 sensor bung.

I think the diagnosis was correct and it's for a support bracket on the clutch line running down the drivers side of the car (LHD car).

If it's not, I can always just remove it and pretend it never existed
