Morghen, provided you're running the proper gearing, of course our cars will see good fuel economy running v8s....

despite the number of cylinders is high, the friction at 2100 rpm is considerably less compared to a 4 cylinder running at 3000 rpm.

example: you see great highway mpg with the 6-speed Vettes.... our cars are on the same order of weight/coefficient of drag, etc.

the same thing is going on with this monster V6 Mustang...

the engine just puts out so much power, they can gear it for low rpm and great mpg on the highway.

overall, the 944 doesn't require much gas to get you down the road.

install the tall n/a gear in the 5 speed turbo box...

or go for Scott Dewitt's/Audi A4 diesel gears for the '68 boxes.

a nice surprise is when you discover it's only a few hours of labor at a good shop to install the tall 01e/'68 gears.

Keep it up Allen. Something tells me our little friends spend a bit too much time on MFC without any tokens.

I've got the V6 version of that engine in my Astro. Poor thing has 246,000 miles on it. It's been punched out once and has big heads on it. The secret is in the fuel injection spider. Early Vortec engines had a single injector with multiple nozzles....I've got six individual injectors. MUCH more power, runs cooler, and with the shift kit in the tranny will chirp second at will.

Yea yea, thats not what he said and not what i said.
He said that the 300hp caddy V8 does 30mpg on a 4000lbs body and i said that the 350hp 2013 911 does 27mpg on a 3200lbs body.
i doubt that the 911 is so low geared that at the same speed as the caddy it will have "higher friction" lol

oh cmon..wake up..

I mean..Porsche(and other OEMs) have gone to direct injection these days to lower the fuel consumption and emissions on the 911...if i'm not mistaken the newer 911s can do just a bit under 30mpg with their 350-400HP on 3000-3600lbs..and they have a 3.6/3.8L engine.

What are you actually saying? that the 1993 caddy V8 has a better fuel economy on a heavyer car and makes about the same power?
Cruising rpm torque in abundance, high overdrive and aerodynamics go a long way. The 944 could get even better mpg if it had a higher 5th gear or a motor with sufficient power to carry out along at low rpm.

Bugatti Veyron would be such an awesome car if only somehow LS2 all aluminum V8 push rod engine would be swapped in to it.

Chrysler engines from the early 1960s-mid-70s were 100% bulletproof.
1,000,000 mile engines could be found in taxi companies all over the states...
right up there alongside the Merc engines from the same time period for the longest lasting on earth award/
yes the cars were big and heavy. but gas was 45 cents/gallon.

today, you've got a lot of cars that are priced for the masses and run fine.
and every American V8 engine is good for 300,000 miles ++.

check the price points for the following cars...

Mustang V6, V8,
*Vette,
*Caddy CTS,
Challenger - not much to compare with; it's a big retro musclecar. that's what it's built to be, and that's what it is.
and the engine? it'll run forever, (just like it's predecessors).

the Malibu is another very well designed and built car for it's intended purpose.

http://wot.motortrend.com/2013-motor...bu-282291.html

put them up against the euro stuff at price point, and the American cars fare very well.

the Vette is the best high-performance car for under 100 grand, and the base car is only $53 K.

anyway, besides missing the episode when they took the CTS, Vette and Challenger to the salt flats,

and besides talking out your ***, have you driven them yourself ?

two of them held records on the N-ring for nearly 3 years apiece.

Jeremy Clarkson thinks Brit cars are great, and American cars suck.

always did, and always will.

oh, and he was a P-car hater, for years.

wtf, take it for a cheapo parts car and pick it to the bone?
