Default Blast Cabinet results!

I got one of those big harbor frieght blast cabinets (with thanks to my wife and crazy eddie!) and thought I'd post up my impresssions. At least for now, I am using everything exactly the way it came out of the box -- no extra sealant, no fancy gun, no vacuum, etc. I posted a before and after shot of a bracket to give you the idea with glass beads (fine walnut shells proved too soft to get a good finish on aluminum). Makes a pretty nice addition to the shop -- though it does take up some room....

Very nice. Im doing my next engine swap at the shop for this very reason (this and the lift)

I am surprised you have any dirty parts to blast after seeing your build though.

Do yourself a favor and fix some things right away. Get better seals. this thing will leak like a sieve. Also protect the light, the media will get in there and destroy it. I sealed the top and bottom with a better gasket. Just went to Lowe's, and got some decent weather stripping. Otherwise, it is a good box as long as your part fits.

I read others say this would leak, but so far I've only found one little place by the vacuum port that seems to have a little dust coming out (very little). I wonder if they improved the seals after getting that feedback. I did notice the seams are pre-sealed with silicon sealant -- so maybe that's new. I'll take a look at the light to see how well sealed it is. I've heard others say it burns out too fast too...

I got one, probably the identical one, from Summit. POS. Instructions were not legible. Leaked like a sieve. I ended up siliconing it everywhere. I also built a trap for the beads for my shop vac, and now run it that way. Any part much bigger than that bracket will result is a haze too thick to see through without running a vacuum to it.

I'm sure that spending a little extra money on one would be worth it, considering the time I wasted putting together mine.

I wondered how long before someone asked that. No, it's running off a 5hp craftsman, and I still have to stop every now and then to let the big compressor keep up.

Everyone seems to say that online. They must have gotten better. I've found one or two little spots where dist gets out, but really not bad at all -- nothing like people seem to say online. Opening the door is the only time I get any real media coming out -- so will likely hook up a frech air trigger in there to clean the door before opening. I've had no trouble seeing in there either, but I've only been blasting small parts so far.

Here's the cap cover off my car. I had to use a spare a while back, and cleaned it with toothbrush/simple green etc. at the time (it started off very ugly). The blaster just makes short work of making it look new...

Just make sure you get ALL the media off the parts.

It came with the gun but not the media. For now, I am using it straight out of the box (after assembling) and bought nothing except media before using it. (Using my own air compressor too of course).

Great results. It looks like a worthwhile tool.
