Default manual steering rack grease??

my new tie-rod ends and boots just showed up for the manual steering rack i am working on and i need to know what type of grease should be used in the tie-rod end (they have a grease fitting on the bottom of them) and on the internals of the rack?

also with the ends should i grease them before, during, or after i install them?

the ends are moog problem solvers

any help or input would be great thx

Molybdenum grease.

What part# did you go with? I just saw a post stating an older 911 outter tie-rod can be used on the manual rack.

MOOG Part # ES2096R its for a 84 911 the only difference is that retaining nut thread is a little smaller but the nut its self was the same OD of stock. saved me 20 bucks or so and also come with grease fitting

also i did test the the taper and they are also the same

V2 you are always there for me thx................ by the way is there any thing else i would worry about while im in there (the boots did not have any cracks and the internals look brand new) i am replacing the boots of course

not really, theres only like 15 parts on a manual rack and only like 2 or 3 are really 'wear' parts. if they bearing on the pinion shaft feels good before greasing, a liberal dollop of grease rubbed into it should suffice. i just grease the hell out of the rack/pinion, the spring, the little button that centers the spring, the bearing and the seals and call it a day.

The manual calls for a special VW grease. I bought it, (great stuff!) from World Impex.

http://www.worldimpex.com/parts/genu...se_550710.html

$18.00 and you know its the right material.

true to bad i already got this i dont really think of the manual as the bible if i did every thing the manual said i would have payed to have every thing done since most of the steps for the rebuild said bring to dealership like the cam job

so lets just hope that grease works and all is well only time will tell

Here is a manual rack that I rebuilt for an Opel GT. I drilled and tapped holes and added grease fittings in the three major potential wear areas (the two sliding end-bearings and in the pinion area), so I can replenish the grease without a teardown. I used the Valvoline red chassis grease in it.

Spring44: Nice, I was thinking of adding niples too. What did you paint it with?

I just used some silver wheel paint that I had in my garage. Nothing special.
