Driving my new '86 951 from Nashville to Dallas this weekend- what do I need?
#46
True...I was obsessive about my N/A when I first bought it...coming up on four years this month. It's like having a first child...the new 951 is like..meh. 2nd child...not nearly as worried. Take care of the trouble areas and you will be fine. I'm glad I got an N/A first....acclimated to the 944 learning curve.

My bank didn't send my wire transfer in time even though I was there 3 hrs. before the weekend cutoff to prevent exactly this. Naturally, the funds aren't even in my account now but in limbo somewhere between here and there. My bank confirmed clearance 10 minutes before closing after I discovered this a half hour before they closed, funds now likely parked waiting to be waved into the seller's account... Monday. Wish he could do PayPal. Planned purchase not happening this weekend now after busting **** all day. Seller reneg'd on his very kind initial offer of just holding title after I sent proofs of everything else and even pulled my "I'm an Eagle Scout FWIW BTW" card (really) out of amused desperation. Comfort issues in the end for him and who could blame? Rescheduling deal and flight to early next week after funds clear Monday, having to take time off work now. Next wknd. no good. Bank manager getting his fiscal 2012 Call From Hell on Monday morning at 8am. I hope he's had his coffee by then. But the car is worth all this and more... updates forthcoming now just a few days later here...

Oh boo.. Well, we'll still be here cheering about yours when you do get it, and continuing bitching about ours while still loving them more than we can express...

Heh, well thanks. I'm not nearly as upset about this after going at my Glenmorangie 10-yr. old single malt straight from the bottle in this past hour... rescheduled flight to Monday afternoon. Probably going to head up to the office tomorrow and buffer in some work I need to do for then while away. Here's hoping...

Ha, if my 951 PITA moment just came at the expense of a careless bank clerk before I ever set foot in the thing, I will (later) be happy about that! The car sounds to be in pretty top shape- I may carelessly take a scenic route home.

When I bought my 951...it was doing all kinds of weird **** in the PO's driveway...as I was getting ready to drive away. The headlights wouldnt come up..and the fog lights wouldnt turn on. He was like WTF...thats never happened? It hasnt happened since...
Like a cowboy selling his horse....it doesn't want to go. The ghost of Ferdinand lives...

Send me a message if you make it up to the Denton area. Would love to see a good 951, have several customers with 924/944 but no 951 to play with.

Wow - talk about memories. I think it was '04 when me and my nephew drove my then '86 944 n/a out to Colorado to buy my current baby '89 951. Was a trip that we still talk about! I posted the trip on this board and just reread it after reading about ur situation. Take lots of pictures is all I can say and of course you will enjoy it!
Safe Trip,
Cory
