Default Went for a drive today

i'll be the first to say that my 944 is not the prettiest looking 944. but, i absolutely LOVE the car and i enjoy driving it more and more. the weather here in northern Ohio is turning cold quickly and i know my days of driving my 944 are somewhat limited. i thought, today, although gloomy and cold, would be a good day to go out and enjoy my car and take some fall pics. i put a few miles (no idea how many as my odometer does not work) on the car and really enjoyed the fruits of the labor that i put into the car.

speedo is a shade off...like 10mph off..ugh:

Awesome stuff!!

mine reads 10kph too fast with factory size tyres and pressures. Here in NZ its illegal for the speedo to be more than 5% out. I want to run lower profiles (smaller rolling diameter) so i'll have to fix it at some stage.

Nice pics car look great (Color PS) I see the trees are changing color & leaves are starting to fall even though your quiet farther south then me.Those dash ligths are probably all burn out or have bad contacts, very easy to change if you do go with brigther one.I did on my ex 83- 944 what a difference it made.

other than the 944 badge, i don't really see whats wrong with your car, you drive it so front end chips are normal...i mean realize the car is 25+yrs old

yea, the 44 badge, lol. i broke the 9 and set it on the bumper and drove off..whoops. my plan was to remove it, repaint it and reattatch it with 3m trim adhesive. that plan fell through of course so i'm just going to order a new badge.

i do drive the car now and again and rock chips and such are normal..and i'm more than ok with it. the car has a poor respray and the paint if flaking in areas, it has some rather large dents, paint is missing entirely from the sunroof etc. the body is solid so it gives me the perfect platform to restore. the car came form TN originally. i have the original window sticker, D&H sticker, and the mileage sticker. having those made the car more worth the price than i originally though it was.

87 944 C, i love the wheels on your 944. if my car had the late offset you best believe i'd be on the hunt for a set of those bad boys!

the leaves are changing quickly Ernie. much faster than i had anticipated, lol. i replaced all of the dash lights thinking that was the issue. not so much i guess. the odd thing is that the entire left cluster does not illuminate, even with the headlights switched on. only the turn signal indicator, high beam indicator, and the oil pressure indicater illuminate. here's a pic with the dash lights on:

That's with the brightness control turned all the way up? Must have a bad ground somewhere or a bad brightness control.

I beleive you having grounds problems. You have two sets of grounds, one come rigth off the main ground by the fuse-relay panel, the other one comes through the center gauge cluster & goes to the gauges. The one by the fuse-relay panel comes up to the back of the gauges on your dash. The ligths have a single wire that goes to them & they ground themselves on the instrument dash. When you have it in storage this winter you should take a hard look at them grounds, you definetly don't have enough dash ligth for nigth driving. The car could be over heating on you & you'll never know until it's to late, what about the oil pressure gauge do have ligth in it.

the temperature gauge operates as it should. the oil pressure gauge and the clock do not illuminate, though the bulbs are good. i cleaned the one ground behind the cluster. i was not sure if there was another.

Your car is gorgeous! There's nothing like a little patina through honest use. The Japanese call it 'wabi-sabi', or just 'wabi'. Your interior is outstanding. You're living the dream; enjoy the drive!
