Default tires in 15"

I was thinking to get 225 50 15 al round on my phonedials but while searching for tires in that size i also saw 215 45 15 .Tires will be Toyo T1R .
Will 215 45 15 look too small on a 944 ? it is lowered.

I think they'd look pretty good.

It will be a smaller diameter, but since you lowered the car it should still fill up the wheel well. It would be an agressive look, though a 225/50/15 looks very mean as well. Either would look good. Keep in mind that both tire choices will throw out your speedometer.

Good luck and post pics!

i think it would look silly. i have a 225/50 on the front of my car and it leaves a lot of wheel-well un-filled because of how small diameter it is, and my car is lowered an inch or maybe a little more in the front. your tire would be even smaller than that.

i am going back to stock size, 215/60, for the front next time around.

Hi Scott ,thanks , still a long way from being rennlist picture worthy but i will soon and i also owe you a full album, i didn't forget just didn't have the time to put everythng together ,they are all scattered through 2 pc's and 4 memory cards lol.

Do you have a pictutre of how it looks on yours ? That's what i'm trying to figure out ,if it looks silly or not. I don't know how much mine is lowered ,i still have to set up everything ,now the stock 215/60 are siting about 1 inch under the edge of the fender . I can still lower it quite a bit more but i would have to take care of the control arms/ball joint to do that .
I would prefer the 215 45 to get a little better gearing ,i don't really care for top speed or if the speedometer works or not ,i will take care of that later.

225/50/15 is a popular size for this car and helps the gears out tremendously on the autox and track.

225/50/R15 BFGoodrich g-Force/sport. I have the 200# Weltmeister lowering springs on the front, dropping the car 1-1.25" from stock. With this size tire the car is about 2" lower than stock height. I find it too low (rubbing on parking curbs, bottoming out on driveways) so I am returning to stock 215/60/R15 soon, unless some 16/17" wheels fall into my lap.

A 215/60 tire is about 1" larger diameter than the 225/50, so half that (~5/8") will be given back as higher ride height. The other half will fill the well out a little more.

A 215/45 tire would be another ~1" smaller than my current tires.

Thanks for the pic ,that does look a bit small but my car is even lower so 225 50 should be perfect. I think you are right 215 45 would just look ridiculous.

too small.

225/50 R 15's look small even on a lowered car. They do work very well however.

225/45 R15 are even smaller diameter and 215/45 R15 will be tiny. One my parts cars had 205/50 R15 on it and those things were really small. a 215/45 and 205/50 are very smilar diameter.

I had 215/60,15 stock on my 15" phone dials and upped to 225/50,15's and they did lower the car but they looked small, handled much better. I have since gotten 16" 7 & 8 PD and love them (I needed spacers tho from early off set to the late I got)

I would love to thow on some 16" early offset phonedials or fuchs for that matter but they are either very hard to find over here or too expensive . I also scraped the idea to go with 17" wheels ,i like it stock-ish better and i also don't realy like using spacers that i needed for the 17" wheels. In the mean time i sold 3 sets of 17" split rims and made a bit of a profit.

Looking at the calculator on miata.net, the 225/50 will be about 1.3 - 1.4" smaller in diameter, speedo will be off 5.2%. I think what you get should depend on your intended usage - if they are track tires, go with the 225/50 for the better handling. Then look for some 16x7 & 8's for street tire combo. I run 215/60x15 on stock phone dials for snow tires, and 205/55 225/50 x 16 on 7 and 8" forged club sport rims for the rest of the year.
