Transmission Mounts Worn?
Being new to 944's I'm not sure how much side to side transmission movement you should be able to get by pushing it from side to side. Just got back after two weeks away and had another play with it. My transmission moves an inch or maybe more from side to side with a firm hand push - enough to easily see the 1/2 shafts sliding in and out of the CV joints. Pictures of the new OEM rubber mounting 'appear' to prevent that much side to side movement, but before I spend $300 (including shipping and exchange rates) can anyone give me a pretty definitive view based on my pretty poor description? (1989 2.7L manual NA)
Thanks

they do move alot- i always found it hard to tell when the mount was bad because even the new ones seem loose. I run a solid mount- no movement- but its much more transmission of noise into the car. Look around on rennlist there is a cheap mod involving filling the stock mount w/ liquid eurethane or something. Dan.

I did a different process to fill the mount. I would recommend doing one of the two ways.
The way I did it is as follows:
1. Take out the mount remove it from the crossemember.
2. Use 3m Window Weld to fill in the mount. Make sure not to cover the bolt holes. But try and make sure that the mount is clean and ready for the urethane. let it cure at least 24 hours if not 48 hours.
BTW I have a spare Trans mount that I could fill in 3m windows weld for you. That way you have no downtime. PM me if interested.

I too had a solid mount, and hated the noise...
I am loving my semi solid mount, same firmness, MUCH less noise!

mikey_audiogeek - where did you get your Window Weld from here in NZ? I went to Bunnings and Mega Mitre 10 yesterday and they both stared at me like I was mad. I've got my gearbox out at the moment so it's a good time to do it.
I see it on their website but it doesn't mention where to go to get it;
3M™ Window-Weld™ Super Fast Urethane, 08609, Black, 10.5 fl oz Cartridge
