Need an oil pump
Hi all, would anyone be willing to donate a late model oil pump to a needy 944 diy guy? Mine suffered through metal in the oil and has put grooves in the housing where the gear spins, as well as on the sides of the gears.
If nobody wants to donate- how much would somebody want to sell to me for??
Maybe I can get a pic of the damage up later. I have a good early pump - but they are different.

You can use the early pump on a late. The best I remember the later pump is thinner because of the automatic tensioner. I think you can use the earlier pump and grind down the bolt head (1/2 normal thickness), where the early tensioner bolt stud went, for clearance of the automatic tensioner. I remember doing this on one of my cars and it worked fine.

Man I would totally do that - but on the two pumps I have - the internal drive gears are bigger on the newer pump, and the inlet / exit ports are also different so the casting in the block won't line up with the old pump. Reading through the manual there is a part that says in certain situations pumps cannot be cross-fitted through years because of design changes. This is from an 87S motor and an 83N/A motor.

OK, I was doing an 86 pump to an 88 engine and what I had to do to make the pump work with the automatic tensioner. Evidently there is at least 3 different pumps. You probably need to post the part number of the pump you need, maybe someone will have the one.

Yeah a part number would be a great idea Charlie! Lol, this is how I get myself into these messes in the first place Note to self: haha!
Xboost - assuming the part numbers line up that sounds like a deal!! I'll PM you the part number today when I get the chance to look at it. Is paypal ok?
Thanks man!

Number on the casting of the pump says 944.107.111.1R and the cast-iron housing with the gears inside the pump casting says 944 107 155 6R. The pump was manufactured in July 1986 and was on a 1987 S engine.
Hopefully that's enough data to figure out if we're looking at the same part. Let me know! Thanks Dan!
