Heads up to anyone in the bay area. I'm gonna need a ride back home because my 968 is staying at SFR to complete the chip testing. Is anyone on the peninsula who could drop me off...I'm pretty much right off of 101. Thanks.

I think my brother is coming so we'll take the 944 and not the turbo. I need to check the tension on the belts too so if anyone has a tool and want to bring it and "show" me how it works that would be great!

What are the addresses? We are going straight to LA early friday and will meet up in SD the next morning. Are we all going to just meet at SFR or at Mt soledad? (same place?) anyway we slice it i'm confused. thanks

Sorry for the delay, I've been out of town for a couple of days...

Let's keep this group together; we've got 8 different parties heading off in a couple of directions. I think Bill's plan is the most complete at the moment and he's sweeping the entire state on his way down to S.D. so let's have his route be the main tailgate party! Just some minor modifications on the times would be needed.

I'm adding up the list of people now, will get back in about 30-minutes...

I have two of those blue motorola radio-thingies - and it has 16 channels(?)
Do I have the wrong kind? I hope I can use them.

For the 928 runs, we have sometimes tried to get Cell-#s to keep track of everybody. Is that something that you think is a good idea Danno?

Oh- and I think Chula Vista is in San Diego....
Course, I've only lived here for 6 months, so I say positively.

What kind of radios are we talking about here?

Thumbs up

nice job summing everything up, danno... one more thing: we should start a list of people who need rides.

i'm going to try to get out of work early on friday so i can meet up with the folks gathering in gilroy, but i'm leaving from santa rosa so calling that a 2 hour drive is pretty optimistic... could easily turn to 3 with traffic.

if i don't make it i may try to catch up

lets also start that list of cell phone numbers... i'd almost rather take a call than use a radio because i have an earphone for my cell so it doesn't interfere with shifting.

i'll have a free seat so i can give someone a ride, but once again i'll be going all the way to LA on friday night.

Ben.

-edit-
phone number removed and given to danno

Hi Brendan, yes cell phones work great. Service can be sporadic on some lone stretches. Anyone with cell phones, please post your phone#. If you don't want it getting out, just send me an email. I'll compile a private list for our use on this trip and make print-outs for everyone.

Sorry I was off on the channels on the FRS radios.More info:
  • <a href="http://www.provide.net/~prsg/frs-faq.htm" target="_blank">FRS - FAQ</a>
  • <a href="http://www.electronics-tutorials.com/frs/family-radio-service.htm" target="_blank">Motorola FRS radios</a>
Yes most likely those radios you have are FRS units, which are unlicensed personal UHF FM radios using 14 channels in the 462/467mhz range with 38 15khz sub-channels each.
Let's use the main channel 6 to avoid interference with the 467mhz GMRS operators. With these sub-channels"<ol type="1">[*]9 2+8 = sub-channel 10[*]9 4+4 = sub-channel 8[*]9 5+1 = sub-channel 6[*]9 6+8 = sub-channel 14[/list=a]We can always do channel-surfing, and it's kinda fun having group discussions since everyone tuned into the 928 channel can listen in and talk. These radios are great because they're quick and easy push-to-talk with no dialing needed. So anyone can do an emergency broadcast to everyone else in the group like: "Hey check out that betty in the convertible Ferrari!"

Yeah Danno, I'm gonna need a ride back to the bay just like Bill. Wait...Bill?! I thought...agh, you bastid! Your car is staying for more SFR go-fast goodies! I still don't smell any brake or suspension mods in the works, and without those you'll still get ownzed!!

If anyone needs a place in OC to stay on Friday night, feel free to crash at my place. I'm in between Newport and Laguna Beach.

See you guys in Gilroy @ 5:30.
Oh yeah, unfortunately I'll be ending my journey in SB, sorry (time constraints).
