Although this guys is obviously mentally challenged, there is an important point to make in the Corvette vs. 944 comparison thread....

(BTW, I like both cars and own one 944)

During the mid-1980's, Corvettes and 951's faced off on the racetrack in an SCCA road racing series (I think it was the World Challenge or something like that). Corvette was UNDEFEATED against the 951's for at least two full seasons. Porsche got thumped so severly that they pulled out of the series, and Chevy underwrote a Corvette only series called the Corvette Challenge that ran for a couple of years.

BTW, these cars were completely stock except for safety modifications, so they you go. The Corvette and the 944 both have their strengths and weaknesses, but when they were both new (mid-80's) C4 Corvettes completely dominated the 944 on the best road racing tracks in the U.S.

As an interesting side note, the Corvette Challenge series launched the careers of many of road racers like Boris Said, Bobby Archer, Andy Pilgrim, etc.

JJK ----&gt; How is it that your 944 need NOTHING if it is such a piece?

Oh... and look at the control arms to a 944. What do they say on them???... What's that? They say Porsche??? Oh... They don't say VW??? Hmmm... Then I guess 944s have a Porsche front end on them, don't they.

Look at a 944. Does it say VW on the hood? On the steering wheel? I didn't think so.

Go rice it up in your fake cars, sucker.

I wonder how many parts the Corvette has in common with a CAVALIER LOL! At least an AUDI is a decent car....not a rust bucket

C4 door handles are the same part as the S10's of that generation.

I don't know about the rest of you, but I think Audi heritage is a plus. Remember when they kicked **** in Trans Am? Michele Mouton at Pikes Peak in a Quattro? Dominating the LMP900 class at Le Mans recently? And look at Mike Galati in the Speed Channel GT Series. No apologies needed here!!

Actually... (sorry) it does. I've got a air bag wheel from a 951 that pop'd, and behind the airbag, there is infact a VW emblem. Personnally I'm proud of the VW heritage. just my .02

M758,
The poster you found is for a different type of race , the at the SCCA Runoffs Showroom Stock GT Race (I repeat ONE RACE ONLY), and was NOT part of the SCCA Showroom stock SERIES that I spoke of. In fact, I don't even know if a Corvette was in that race (which is run by amateur club racers, not professional road racers). Corvette won 19 races in a row against Porsche in the SERIES from 1986-1987. Corvette was banned from competition for 1988 and started the Corvette Challenge series.

"Corvette is known as a car at home on both the street and the track. It is a car engineered to be a winner, right off the assembly line. In fact, after winning every single SCCA Showroom Stock Endurance Series race from 1984 through 1987, Corvette was retired from the series, having been declared unbeatable. " Of course, this came from the Corvette Motorsports website, but I remember this series because I went to some of the races back then.

Sorry guys, but these are facts.

I bought my 951 for what it is, and what it does, not for the nameplate. I'd have bought the car if it had a Studebaker or AMC badge on it. Who gives a rat's *** where the parts came from? It's an incredible car.

...and by the way, it is a Porsche.

cheers

Alright this has nothing to do with the unsatisfied porsche owner that started this thread, but I was under the impression that the 924 was the only car built by Audi.

Weren't all 944s and 924Ss built by Porsche?

I read every one of the posts to make it here. I could only find one valid point of interes.

Though the "*******" comment seems to suite him, he actually knows about the 84 to 85 corvettes. And being from a family who has had a lot of them, just wanted to clear the air for any Porsche owner who would not sleep well without knowing for sure.

C4
1983 There is no '83 model vette... Well actually 40 were built, but none were sold. Only one '83 vette is still alive.
1984 First year of C4. Engine was 350cid, 5.7-liter, called L-83 and it produced 205hp.
1985 Cross Fire injection changed to Tuned Port Injection.

This was taken from this site:
<a href="http://corvette-stingray.8m.com/corvettehistory.html" target="_blank">http://corvette-stingray.8m.com/corvettehistory.html</a>

I know that most of you could care less about Corvettes, but they are not a bad car. They are what they were built for. They were built to be a "torquey" muscle car for middle-aged men in bikini swim speedo's.

Just today my girlfriend was talking about a lady at her job who has a c5(an 80lb overweight person who wears daisy dukes) and she has had nothing but problems. Went to file the lemon law for some steering stuff and electrical problems and found that thousands have filed for the same issues. My girlfriend could not understand how something that costs so much could not be a nice car. I told her that it was not built to be a Mercedes, but a hyped up Camaro. And that it is!

Anyway, no matter hwo reliable it is nor how fast it is, an 80's vette owner is just, that. An 80's vette owner. We all know them and we all know the stereotype of them.

A Porshce from the same era has character and I think well describes the person. The same way that all 80's corvette owners may not be wearing a Members Only jacket and hitting on your mom as she is buying groceries, not all Porsche owners will be like us. Hence JJK.

I just wish that he had not learned to type.

Here's to "yall" <img src="graemlins/beerchug.gif" border="0" alt="[cheers]" />
