Found 2 teeth on my oil drain plug magnet (Now: Cam swap thread on 944S)
Did my first oil change on my newly aquired 944S and found 2 teeth on the drain plug magnet... Is this a semi-common problem? Maybe teeth off the cam gears from a worn tensioner slacking up too much?
any ideas?
Thanks,
Jeff

Put them under your pillow see if the tooth fairy leaves you 50 cents!
Actually I would at the very least pull the valve cover see if there is any serious damage to the sprockets / tensioner.
I would not be too inclined to drive it until i had the problem identified and or fixed.
Now it is still a simple fix. If the chain breaks or slips bent valves will ruin your day.

baaaaaaad guessing
Cam sprocket teeth
DO NOT DRIVE THE CAR
pull the valve cover right now it is a several hundred dollar fix wait until the sprocket strips all the way and it is several thousand with bent valves and so on.

This is what could have happened...
Think of finding those teeth one the drain plug magnent as a blessing, you may have just saved your cylinder head, even if you'll need new cams.

Just a thought, it could possibly be teeth from an old cam that was replaced before you got the car. The teeth could have just gotten down to the pan recently. But I agree, pull the cover and inspect the cam gears thoroughly before running the engine.
