I'd prefer to keep my cat since it's a newish magnaflow. I have a friend with access to a tig welder (he goes to school for welding at EVIT) Is it a problem to have half your exhaust new pipes and the other half stock pipes? And 2.5's are 2.5" stock right?

A) I might need your friends number at some point in the future

B) Do you mean stock was 2.5 inch? probably not I'm talking 2.5" Diamter tubes

C) You'll be fine running half bigger diameter than, and it'll probably be good for few more ponies as well. Biggest pony gains will be had by doing replacing the exhaust manifold with headers, and going back from there, but if you just want a nicer sound with a better muffler than you're 17 and allowed to have the loudest and most annoying exhaust you please

When I was 17 errr (19 but whos counting) I didn't even run a muffler on my SAAB, just one cat in a 3.5" down pipe from the turbo, and when I was 18 I ran my 914 on straight headers for a couple weeks

Haha. Yeah the 944 has 2.5" diameter pipes stock.

My sound system's too nice to have a super obnoxious exhaust in the way

I'll take a vid of my exhaust as it is right now, after school. It's already loud and sounds raspy, I think my stock muffler's gone to crap.

Thats some homo talk right there if I've ever heard! Stop banging out taylor swift and start having a way too loud of an exhaust

Yeah can go bigger than a 2.5" if you want maybe a 2.75" or 3" but you're more than likely only going to be shifting the powerband up

944 is closer to 2-1/16" stock pipe diameter, not 2.5", that was the 951. You can put a 951 muffler section on a 944 if you swap the pipe flange. No need to increase pipe size though below 200HP, it will just make it louder and slower. A car like a 944 which has no low-end to speak of needs as much gas velocity as it can get, so stock pipes are good enough for a street car.

Magic! Yeah i didn't think a NA 944 had 2.5 pipe, anyways i would just run it 2.5 from the resonator all the way back

but in answer to your question with a 2.25 to 2.5 piping adaptor duh!

pipe is cheap, don't be a tight ***

Wow sorry so long to reply odurandina. I still really like the exhaust and have had several guys at gas pumps ask me what the set up is under there.

That being said, it has been over 6 months now, my car has a stripped back end, and I drive it over two hours a day. So I think I will be swapping the IMCO muffler out. My plan is to do a exhaust bypass valve with remote in the car mounted just in front of a quieter muffler. Then on those days I really want alot of sound I can hit the bypass and really wake the dead. The system should still sound really good with a quieter muffler. It's the SLP resonator that really gives the great tones I think; I HIGHLY recommend it.

Again many thanks for putting this on the forum.

Pipe adapter, or have the stock pipe expanded slightly. Any exhaust shop will have the tool for that.

after doing the math, it was determined that to get to the correct sized tire to make 25.0 mph/1000 rpm [and 162.5 mph redline], it would be necessary to run 25.5" tires..... and upon buying my new, 18" rims, i found that the y-rated Dunlop 275-35-18s would fit the bill, measuring about 25.6"

after changing to the Dunlops, my speedometer, as confirmed both on by gps, traffic displays and mile markers was still exaggerating my actual speed by about 4 mph at 100~150 mph...... but, at 4000 rpm on the tach, my speed was exactly 100 mph [confirmed], exactly as the tire rotations/mile/tach/mathmatics indicated it should be. this means that my speedo had been exaggerating even more with the 25.0" Bridgestones mounted on the old 16" rims. [this situation has also been observed over and over and over with every 80s/'90s P-car, LOL].

so, i simply turned back the speedo just a tad under 5 mph [gently with my index finger] leaning on the butt side of the needle [caution]....

now, at 4000 rpm, the speedo correctly reads 100 mph, and 150 mph @ 6000 rpm, etc.

i was able to reach top speed with the open pipes.

if i set the tack on 2400 rpm, it takes exactly 10 minutes to go 10 miles [as it should], and the odometer differs from the mile marker signs by about 1/10th of a mile for every 100 miles...

this is just for the 968 box. i have no idea what would be required for 3 or 4 different 944 boxes.

when the tires were new, the actual size of the Dunlops gave about 163.2 mph at the limiter.

i was able to reach the limiter a few times

but with normal tire wear, the speed is down a little.

my rear tires are the same OD as yours and mathematically my 951 trans should do 140 in 4th gear at redline...

Just replace the muffler with the resonator, you stilll got a cat on, shouldn't be too loud.... and if it is, than you're the worst 17 yr old kid ever

the slight increase in volume you have is probably from the aftermarket cat you put on, they don't muffle as much as factory units do

with a turbo, that would be a sick idea with likely, very good results.

not sure about his n/a 4 keg motor and headers.

i think he'll get pulled over.
