Butters doesn't have headers, its would pretty much just be a cat back with a resonator and no muffler, loud... yeah. Would get get pulled over in AZ..... oh hell no you need to be REAL loud for that to happen!

Like I said before I've driven around AZ on open headers in my 914 and never got pulled over

If i were you butter i would hack off the system after the cat, weld the resonator in, and see how you like the sound, if you can deal with it just pipe it back, if its too loud you can probably source a flowmaster on CL for cheap

or for less work, just don't be a cheap *** and get a used flowmaster off CL to begin with

After reading all of the posts on exhaust options, I finally decided
to put my own system together at the exhaust shop.

New freeflow cat
Magnaflow Glasspack Resonator
And Borla Muffler
2 1/2" connectors

The difference in sound is unbelievable....Driving experience is awesome with the improved sound.

Deeper tone and no droning. No ricy sound. Its sounds more like a small v8 or an awesome v6.

Best part it was 645 total for all parts and labor.......

Less than any of the bolt on cat back and I even got a new cat as icing on top.

Would love to see pictures and possibly a sound byte! Where is the shop that did this?

Well, I went ahead and did up Odur's exhaust on my 944. Louder than I wanted it but I LOVE IT!

Went with the SLP resonator, 2.5" pipes all the way, with a 14" flow-through knockoff-magnaflow muffler in back. Total $ for entire project including having it all welded up at an exhaust shop: $300. Not bad, eh?

Gonna make better videos but here's a teaser:

sound's good B. not ricey at all.... bet it actually sounds better in person.

we need better recording equipment.

as mine sounds a good deal better than in my video.

really good coming up to speed, then highway cruising.

True that. Is better in person. My cell phone does a decent job recording it in HD, that's the best I can do. I'm making vids from outside tonight.

just reposting for future reference;

the SLP cleans up the sound, but as it is completely hollow, it doesn't suppress the noise as much as a full-sized 14X5 or 18X5 inch glasspack resonator would do.... so don't run the SLP... run a full glasspack like the one shown below.

and still run the large muffler (everyone makes the mistake of running too small mufflers).

these things aren't very heavy, so there's not much of a problem with weight.

then you'll have a semi-exotic sound that's not be too loud.

this would also be really nice set up for an S2 or 968 and make good power.

I have been itching for a nice sounding exhaust system for my S2 cabrio. I think I might have to take the plunge very very soon.

that's awesome, Rob. thanks for posting that. we know there's already a fair amount of sound deadening at the y-pipe, but it's great to see someone demonstrating what a good resonator can do to clean up the sound of the V8, quiet it, be able to play the stereo, and still have the power from a completely open system.

have you put her on a dyno?
