Default Re-sealing Injectors, wrong BOSCH kit - WTF!

Got BOSCH kit 1 287 010 704 to re seal my injectors ('86 951). A quick search led me to find that apparently this kit does not fit correctly. I then found that Rennbay sells a correct kit (blue caps). Is there another source for the correct kit somewhere near NJ? I really don't want to have to wait all week to get friggin injector seals.

Also, how do the hats comeee off? You just pull them?

Thanks
Mike

I am pretty sure Kragen/Autozone/Whatever stock seal kits that will fit. A rennlister discovered a while back that the caps and seals for the injectors that go in a ford 2.3 turbo will work. Part number on the cksauto website is 1580079. You may be able to find that locally

Oh right, and taking the caps off.

BE REALLY REALLY REALLY CAREFUL!!

I broke the pintle off of two injectors before I learned. If the old orange injectors are still on there, then carefully squeeze the sides with pliers to crack them off, they should be brittle enough if they are original.

Just dont use pliers to try and pull them straight off. If you can, cut the seal off to give yourself some room around the cap, and use some kind of slotted surface to slide the tip into, and pull on the injector itself to get the cap off.

This is a combination of my own painful learning experience, and JohnKoaWood's advice.

I cannot believe that Bosch never fixed this kit.

Any auto parts store should have the Borg Warner kit (blue caps). Heat the pintle caps up slightly before assembling. The bosch kits suck.

I just went through injector hell...one was leaking, so I re-sealed all of them. Another one starting leaking, swapped o-rings/tip (2nd time) then the first started leaking again. Then the third one started and the other two stopped. This was with the blue tip kit. What was strange was when I pulled the leaking ones...each time the new plastic tip was loose. Believe me, I snapped those StrekStrekStrekStrekers on there tight and it still repeated.

I ended up ordering 4 rebuilt ones from pelican...$240. They worked perfect the first go. My car runs awesome now...they made a difference.

I think, now, I could possibly beat PorscheDoc in a fuel rail removal race....ha. Six times a charm.

Yeah....but I shaved 75% off my initial removal time. That has to count for something. Repetition, repetition repetition...repeat. I was stuck in a never-ending, engine fire loop...

What year ford 2.3? Is this a full kit or just the blue hats? It is identical to the Rennbay kit? Do the injector seals fit correctly as well?

Is it super critical to change the hats? Or could I just change the seals and not the hats...I'm afraid I might have issues with the hats. I might try hot-knifing them off....good idea?

In my case...I dont know what happened. I searched every injector thread on this forum. I started to question my manhood, gene pool, and overall self-worth. I mean .... if I cant take off a plastic tip and replace it correctly, this is probably a bad car for me to be owning. I chalked it up to God hating me...

When I got my new injectors...I didnt change anything as far as installation. They just worked...

I found 2 kits that are for FORD applications that look identical:

'88 Thunderbird Turbo

http://shop.advanceautoparts.com/web...S_785553195___

'88 Mustang 2.3

http://shop.advanceautoparts.com/web...GRPFUELAMS____

Anyone know what might make these two kits be listed under different part numbers? They look identical...

One is $2.79 and the other $5.99 which is weird other then the fact that one is BorgWarner, the other Beck Arnley

Hopefully one of these works because I can get them locally
