that's damn good advice right there! thanks for the info! The hatch is some aftermarket fiberglass/metal piece with integrated spoiler...i bought it for 75 bucks off of ebay because it had a brand new seal and i was tired of having a soaking wet floor from the hatch leaking like a sieve.

i'll probably do something like that eventually, if i can find a bulge that's got about 3 1/2 inches tall at the front...the reason i needed the scoop/box thing was the intake elbow...it came right overtop of the edge of the stock hood latch

you can stop by and take it for a quick drive if you'd like! but you can definitely contact me when you get ready to do the swap.

why not remove the elbow and instead run a pipe forward and through the radiator support (where the ic pipe goes on a turbo) and put your filter under the badge panel? you could use a reducer from the stock TB down to 2.5 or 3" whatever will fit through that hole and it would work out and youd still have a cold air pickup.

i'd need to drop the engine down, because the water pump sits pretty close below the elbow. If i could lower the engine a few inches i would be able to do that, but then i wouldn't have much of a problem with hood clearance.

Keep the box. When people make fun of it, just start toasting the tires and say, "WHAT WAS THAT? I COULDN'T HEAR YOU OVER ALL OF MY TORQUE!!!"

LMAO!! now that's a good idea!!

it's definitely staying for quite a while, i'll make some minor modifications to it to break up the large front face and the sides (vents, raised emblems...) personally i don't even like how it looks in the pictures, but when you look at it in person, and you see the profile, it looks absolutely MEAN...the sound doesn't hurt either haha!

clearly you need to scrap the cone filter entirely and put a piece of window screen over the throttle body instead.

Congrats on the finished product, nothing beats the satisfaction of huge project like that successfully completed, and I definitely want to see some videos too. That being said, I just finished ranting about function over form...but holy hell what did you do?! Haha, just playing...the worse it looks the more of a sleeper it is

Did you make the mounts yourself? I couldn't remember what you said. Also I thought you were just going to roll your paint to finish up this project.

yeah, i made the mounts...they're solid, no rubber, and the thing still vibrates less than it used to with the old engine...
