My father had a 924S when I was a child and I remember detailing it for him every weekend. It was beautiful: white, phone dial wheels, 924S decal on the rear deck.
The one difference with his car and so many others is that the interior was updated more than the 924Ss that are on line for sale. He had a four spoke steering wheel and an interior that looked similar to a 944.
Was that an 88 924s? or did they make that in 87.5?
Someday I'd like to own that exact car just for fun.

All the 87 and 88 924S had the old style 944 interior. I have 87 and 88 924S parts cars and the all had the old interior with 3 seperate gauges.
I remember seeing some place 924S with late style interior, but that was either, wrong or some non USA model. In anyevent not the norm.

That cannot be right, he leased a 924s and it had the four spoke steering wheel just like the 944. I'm not sure about the gauge cluster. What year did they change the steering wheel?

I knew it. I've never seen a 924S like my old mans. It didn't have the traditional black "924S" on the rear deck. It was like a hollow stencil. Four spoke steering wheel and more modern interior. I'd love one of those cars just for nostalgia sake.

I've seen some people who put in aftermarket dash kits to make the 924S dash look more modern - perhaps that's what your father had?
For what its worth, my 924S came with the hollow decal and phone dials as well, but it had a 3-spoke steering wheel (which I've since replaced with a Momo unit). You should pick one up - they're a blast to drive!

My 87 924S had the 4spoke wheel, but it was the early dash. There are a few people (generally overseas) that do have factory late 944 dashes in there 924S's

I bought a very late 88 (July) 924S brand new and it was early dash. One of the differences between the 87 and 88s was that the 88 had the 944-style shifter whereas the 87 had the older 924 shifter.

Here's a discussion on the possibility that the factory made a few 924S's with late dashes.
