Default Transmission Leak

After the last DE I noticed seepage coming from the transmission. Recently the seepage has turned to a small leak.

The leak is coming from the area where the inner CV joint meets the transmission. It looks like there is a seal there but I am not sure if it is the inner or outer diff seal that needs to be ordered. Anyone have any information , exploded diagram or part number?

Thanx

There is a seal there at each side. Part number is 16 409 399B (you need 2). The seals can be replaced by removing the CV joint and the stub axle flange from each side. There is only one seal per side. You will need an 8mm spline drive (cheese head) tool to remove the CV joints.

Be aware though that the seals often leak because of wear in the differential carrier bearings that cause excess radial play (ie up down) in the stub axles.

I am about to do this very task, once I have rebuilt my torque tube.

Can this start to leak because of using full synthetic oil? I have noticed that my tranny only started leaking after I put in syn oil. How hard is seal to replace? Do you do a fluid change then?

I used Redline specifically for LSD's and my issue is certainly from age. I perform a pst DE inspection after every event and noticed the seapage.

but to address your question, I have heard of stories with synthetic oils contributing to seals leaking due to the elements making up the synthetic.

As soon as I poured my redline synth oil in the tranny it leaked immediately.
