Hey Chewie, it's looking good! Let's hope your project does NOT turn out to be a millenium falcon, and serves reliably!

I did a compression check on my 968 yesterday. Let's just say that my 968's engine thinks it's a 944 engine. I think this is why I'm dying to do an engine swap.

I anticipate some minor probs with the hyperdrive coolant coupling, but nothing R2D2 can't fix. Is the 968 trying to lay down on ya?

A little off topic, but Vonov, where will/can you get the Alcantara?

I have an na 944 and started getting some turbo stuff in plans to do that but anything that i wanted to do to it compared to VW was looking to be very pricey, not to mention the old technology id have to deal with. But ultimately i dont trust the engine enough to not explode. I had already thought about doing a VR swap.

so your build is the nail in the coffin for the old plans. im going to do a moderately built VR Turbo, and going for a motorsports theme all around, the interior is already stripped, sound deadening removed, and a bunch of other things for weight reduction. plus some other stuff here and there.

Not really OT, since it's part of the overall build...there are only a few suppliers in the U.S....I'm getting fabric swatches sent out in a few days from Gulf Fabrics, Inc... (Gulffab1@aol.com) IIRC, the price is close to $85.00 a yard...I want to see some of it before putting in an order, but if it's as nice as everyone says it is, I think it'll be worth it for about three to five yards worth to do the dash and some other details on the interior. Thinking hunter green and cocoa brown...sort of a Sherwood Forest color scheme.

Rain, holiday, and mom's birthday kinda prevented any progress this week, although did manage to cut off ear on bellhousing next to starter. Also picked up a fiberglass cowl induction scoop for hood, (free!) just in case...

Spencer, you're welcome to come chill at my house when you're up here. I have some cars we can stare at while sipping drinks.

Tony, the 968 is straight up crapping out. I can't imagine how I never noticed. My mom's '95 has a tight motor and goes like stink. But my '93 is a dog. When I did the compression check, I proceeded to drive the two 968s back to back for the first time, and my reaction was... lots of bad words, followed by "i shoulda had a vr6".

7000 posts! And I rarely go to OT!

Well, Arash, I can't imagine you skimping on maintenance, so I'd say it was probably headed downhill when you bought it...if I have a choice between buying two cars, and one is newer, but the other guy has detailed maintenance records, all other things being equal, I'll buy that one. Of course, mine was bought with a lunched motor; I bought it with a swap in mind to begin with, and it had a fairly decent interior, and I got it for 600 bucks because the guy was going away to school and his mom was making noises about sending it to a junkyard if it wasn't out of her yard before he went to school.

VR6 was just glimmer at first, then the wheels started spinning, then it was OK, how do we do it?? Ok now to make it happen, then it snowballed into the current project. 600 hp capable, small package, Hmm, OK lets do it. And all the advantages of VW reliability, cheap maintenance, and BIG power when you want/need it. And the aftermarket availability of turbo/replacement parts. Well it is a "no brainer" and if you go trying to make that power level with 944/951/968 parts- you will go broke.
