Default '84 944 N/A Very Wet!

I bought an '84 944 for my 17-year-old son. Clean and in great mechanical and exterior condition. The interior is rough but repairable. (Just got a great deal on full leather 911 seats - $300/pair)

The problem is that during the current rain storms here in CA, the car is leaking. The back seats are soaked and water drips into the passenger footwell. I'm guessing the hatch seal for te back seat but not sure on the footwell.

Thanks in advance for your advice.

Aside from the new seats, and carpet, don't spend more than 250 or 300 on the interior, minus whatever you should've paid for 944 seats. And have someone help him with carpet. I just did mine (I'm 18) thinking I could handle it, and it's not great. Not bad, just not excellent, and definitely not finished off yet.

the water on the back seats is probably coming in between the hatch glass and the metal frame; this happens on my car but i used some silicone to seal it or black electrical tape lol

as for the passenger footwell, check to see if the battery box is rusted through in any spots; common problem on these cars.

It might just be clogged drain pipes in the cowl area. They are often gunked up.

Thanks! How do I find all of the various drain tubes? Is there a reference somewhere? I used to sell these back in the early '80s but never pulled one apart.

remove the sunroof, they are in each corner. just get a maybe 3' piece of wire, bend a small hook on the end and push it down the tubes to see if theres anything in them..

Weed whacker string works the best for clearing out drain tubes.

quick question, do these 911 seats bolt right in? and is it possible to use the motor to adjust the position of the seats? I think to use the electric motors cause my car already has them. however, the leather on the seats are blown.

after doing everything posted above for the water and checking the battery tray for rust i found the leak in my 89. the corner of the passenger rear window. the guy at the glass shop repaired it for free! he pulled the rubber out a little, stuck a nozzle from the silicone (not silicone the other stuff) in and filled it, applied some pressure. then he took a razor and removed the excess on the window.

911 seats should bolt in...if you can find 12v then the power seats should work...

i used to have this problem, i would get soaked carpet and back seats etc after a rainstorm...i then replaced my hatch with a fiberglass and aluminum custom one i picked up on craigslist...it was dirt cheap (75 bucks) with brand new seals...sucker seals like a volkswagen bug and i haven't had a single drop of water come in the car (except when i left the sunroof open and it snowed for two days....woops!) so try the hatch first, then work to the battery box area, and check to make sure the seal along the top of the windshield is pushed in all the way

EDIT: by the way i would get both passenger and drivers side soaked carpet, but the passenger was much worse...check the carpet under the back seats (behind the fronts i mean) to see if that is absolutely soaked, i used to get standing water back there until i fixed the hatch leak.

+1

Remove battery and inspect the battery tray, mine had a huge hole that leak into the passenger footwell.

In that car, the passenger footwell leak is likely just cloged scuppers in the battery tray as I think somebody mentioned.

Now ETHAN...where are some pics of your car with that hatch???
