Ok all, ive been on and off about this, and i want some opinions, or help if anyone can provide! I bought my in October, and i am the 4th owner. The PO has clammed up and wont give me the 2nd owners info. Oh well. I am trying to contact the first owner, because it seems more doable than the second for now. I have the dealership it was delivered, but it doesnt seem to be there anymore. So i have a town, and a name. Should i even try to locate and call this person up. I just want to know the cars history, etc... The dealership was in San Juan / Capistra, California. It was one of the ones. Car number 108 and its first service was in february of 91 at 43 miles. What towns are around that location. I dont want to give out the owners name, but i can look it up online and get phone numbers. Does anyone know any surrounding towns or cities within 50 miles or so of that place. I doubt its any further, the car would have had more miles before its service. Does anyone have any advice on how i should approach this, or if i even should?

I'm not suprised the PO has clammed up. Lots of people are wary of strangers trying to get information on others.
In Ontario, you can get a listing of all the previous owners as part of a buyers' information package that's supposed to be a consumer protection thing, but it doesn't cover out of province.

when i bought my car i was assured i would get the folder of receipts. everything checked out so i didnt press it. instead i called the dealer that serviced the car and got an ok from the computer that work was done.
bet the bill for the crappy head work was in that folder. you sure you want to know? i just called the dealer that sold me the car, told him i knew about the crappy head work, and would appreciate any paperwork for my records. i couldnt sue him anyway so there is nothing to hide.

I know, i understand theres a bunch of laws in the US on that stuff as well. I just wanna find out what the car was used for, and why it was sold. Basically what it did during its early life. I know it was a daily car, but the owner must have been obsessive (like i am) because the paint work is flawless. Ive never seen a daily driver look like my car, so im just really curious if they used it for concours, etc...

Im not looking for service, i have all that stuff. The car is fine mechanically. I am just curious as to what the car was used for and stuff like that. I know some stuff about the first owner and it makes an interesting story. I would just like to fill in a few more of these pieces.

I know my car was a daily driver for a retired General, and up until I purchased very few people had been in the passenger or rear seats. I guess it explains why the passenger seat is so stiff compared to the drivers.
I would give it a try, knowing the story of your car is always leverage if selling it in the future is an option for you.

San Juan Capistrano is a pretty nice area in Orange County, surrounded by other nice areas. It is some good Porsche country as folks living in those areas can have a lot of money. Surrounding cities which might be of interest to you: Dana Point, San Clemente, Laguna Beach/Laguna Nigel, Newport Beach, Costa Mesa and Irvine.
Good luck in your search,
Tom
