This is a perfect example. Nissan is paint. The Ferrari is a vinyl wrap. Note the perfect texture on the Ferrari. It's the new fad in Europe. Completely wrap the car in Matte vinyl. There is a guy on the 996 Forum who wrapped his Artic Silver 996 GT3 Mk1.

SOFA KING hot.

What about a Semi-gloss clear on top of flat paint? Or just semi-gloss paint? Vynil has a life on it.

Yeah....a 20 yr life (depending on the vinyl.) The high-performance grade has a 20+ year life span in UV conditions.

I used to own a graphics shop that did motorsports graphics.

Most places I saw, said you should think about replacing it after like 7 or 8... And I can't imagine it'd look as good as day 1 after that long.

How does the vinyl hold up to scratching - like from someone leaning on a car, or jabbing a key at the keyhole and hitting the paint instead?

Just like anything else would. Leaning on the car...not too bad. Jabbing a key...anything would look crappy. Vinyl, same deal.

Vinyl coating really just means painting with a vinyl paint right? Like an acrylic or plastic based paint.

Does the matt finish look good in any other colors?

Matt white maybe?

No. Graphical vinyl wrap.

Before you guys think of doing this, I advise caution. While it will look spectacular, the black finish will bake on the car's paint in the summer months. So much so that if you decide to take off the vinyl...it will likely pull the paint off with it. No joke.
