Engine Swap......

I did a lot of research on this and unless you want to put in a different motor just for the sake of "being different" the LS route makes the most sense.
It's not cheap but it offers the most bang for the buck and has already been engineered and tested. You can get a new LS3 with 480hp for under 7k, GM plug and play controller for $1,000 and accessories for @ $1,000 and you're off.
Of course, investing any type of money into a 944 makes no financial sense but sometimes it's fun to do crazy things just because you can. I have no particular alliance to any motor. I just want power under my foot.

i love my japanese car but there's a ton of good aftermarket shops here in the states. we have some world recordholders for engine builders and parts. not only japanese companies are capable of making good parts for japanese cars. don't think too lightly of stateside shops.
for example, the mitsu evo platform, AMS in Chicago holds world record for hp on the evo. their shop car's got 1100whp and does the 1/4 in 8.42 and they're improving themselves every couple of months.

I have a lot of respect for what American shops are doing, but what I'm saying is that although they are growing, most of them cant afford to do as much R&D as lets say Spoon, Mugen, J's Racing (yeah I'm partial to Honda), RE Amemiya, Tom's, Cusco, etc. In addition, these Japanese companies compete in series like Super Taikyu, and Super GT. The stateside companies that tune Japanese cars get to compete in our Time Attack series and small showdowns if they are lucky. In my opinion, the "scene" just isn't the same here.

My IDEA is to have a inexpensive alternative for installing another engine. under $3k total project cost except labor would be nice. I know its the little things that add up that kill the project.

why not buy japanese car alltogether?
I think cheap bolt-on 944 supercharger set would be great.

What do you consider cheap? The Jackson Racing stuff is usually around $3000... I would expect a kit for the 944 to be a little more, considering the limited production numbers for a 944 kit opposed to the typical Honda crowd.

I like the styling & handling of the 944 but the engine just lacks the HP and to mod the stock engine is too costly compared to swapping something else in. Especially when I have a whole machine shop at my disposal.

The question is what would someone pay for a 10 psi supercharger kit w/o a blower??
On the swap note. I have been seriously considering the 3.8 supercharged engine from the Pontiac Bonnevilles. You can pick up a whole car for ~ 1000 that has a bad trans and get the clutch items from a camaro/ firebird v6 easily found in junkyards. You would have the computer sensors and everything else needed. Some mods may be needed for the oil pan or get one off of a Fbody.
These engines are probably the most junkyard plentiful in NA form so parts are easy to come by.
There is a good aftermarket support for them, and if you wanted to get even more carried away you could turbo it or twin charge it. There are 9 second FWD Grad Prix out there so power is not the point and they are a very reliable engine that get good fuel mileage. Just a thought

maybe the air tracts are just restrictive, there's alot more power in there to be gained though. know of any aftermarket cams for that V6?
