I have been seeing this red 944 in town for the last week and he finally went to the car show in town. Its a red 1988 944 n/a with a 2004 GTO motor putting out 400hp! It looks brand new for having over 200,000 miles! He said he can spin the tires at 60mph. He did a great job and it looks amazing!
heres the motor taken by my cell phone he used the stock transaxle with a modified bell housing!

I know of both FD and FC RX-7's that were swapped with LT1's and T-56's

The LS1 in the 2004 GTO was putting out 350hp. The 2005 GTO motor is completely different and puts out 400hp.
I dont think the transmission used in the GTO will fit the Porsche because the gto uses a transmission and the 944 uses a transaxle, whle the RX7 uses a transmission. small details.

yeah, the problem is that you can't fit a chevy transmission behind the chevy motor in the porsche because the walls of the area where the tranny would sit are tiny (torque tube much?). i believe some have gone the route of having that area widened to fit a transmission there, even still....others have fit c5 (i think) transaxles (the c5 *i think!!!* had a rear mounted transaxle with a torque tube) into the porsche body, but that can have problems also because you have to adapt the engine and the tranny to the p-car torque tube, or modify the chevy TT. Then you get into troubles with mounting the transaxle in the back because the axles will be in different places.................that right there is a job for the hardy of soul and the fat of wallet..........that's why most like the turbo transmission, it comes with hardened first and second, the only problem is with the larger engines, it's nice to have a longer 5th gear for highway cruising (unless it's a dedicated track car) so most like to swap out 5 from an n/a tranny
wow that took a long time to type!

So if it is an audi transaxle is it a porsche transmission?
![surrender](https://rennlist.com/forums/graemlins/surrender.gif)
remember the 944 is not really a porsche, but an audi with vw parts and a porsche motor.

Yes, that's exactly what's in a 944. It's what's in a VW Beetle (the old ones). It has nothing to do with front or rear wheel drive...it's about being a trans and a rear in one unit.
