LS1 Camaros and Firebirds are pretty cheap, and a lot cheaper to run than a 944.
sell your 944 and you too can have a sexy looking engine.
And if you think motors look sexy, i bet you think they sound sexy too, so, for the record, the motor in my GTO sounded a lot nicer than any of my 944s, including the turbo with the SFR exhaust and bypass pipe.

no I just like the idea/look of a 944 with a V8 in it
just imagine all that power in a 2500lbs car
and you can't deny the beauty of it either![Smilie](https://rennlist.com/forums/images/smilies/smile.gif)
and the older Camaro's and Firebirds have dropped in price, but I don't like them enough to own one; my 944 on the other hand ...

look into the history of the 944, and where the transmission from the 944 came from. I t is an audi TRANSAXLE from a FWD audi.
So if it is an audi transaxle is it a porsche transmission?![surrender](https://rennlist.com/forums/graemlins/surrender.gif)
remember the 944 is not really a porsche, but an audi with vw parts and a porsche motor.

as long as you are willing to invest large amounts of money and time into your car you can do amazing things. we have at least one person whose 951 is making over 600HP at the wheels.

Okay, someone clue me in here.
It was my impression that the stock transaxle in the 944 just wasn't built to stand up to these high-output engines, and that it would need to be upgraded when hybridizing, lest problems ensue latter.
Was I wrong?

A lot of guys are using the stock 944 tranny and they do handle abuse pretty well. The ratios aren't too good though as compared to the 951 boxes and the preferred ones are the Turbo S box but they're rare. I'm doing a 968 with an LS1, Z06 head, ported and Z06 cam. The project is taking a long time because I don't have any.

I had to shrink these photos to fit but attached are some pics of 2 race cars I saw at the Glenn. Both had conversions motors and one had 968RS wing, that I love. Enjoy.

I have been seeing this red 944 in town for the last week and he finally went to the car show in town. Its a red 1988 944 n/a with a 2004 GTO motor putting out 400hp! It looks brand new for having over 200,000 miles! He said he can spin the tires at 60mph. He did a great job and it looks amazing!
heres the motor taken by my cell phone he used the stock transaxle with a modified bell housing!

Im in South Bend and drove to Valpo to install it for him. Great guy. It is a GTO engine. We used a renegadehybrids kit and everything went swimmingly. Got there about noon, GTO engine was still on the stand, and had it running by nightfall. Well, the fuel pump shat on us but it ran on starter fluid. Theres a video on youtube of its first run.

Wow... thanks for attention! I have to give 944-LT1 a hard time for a second here... you installed the engine for me... or with me? In all seriousness, your, and your brothers help was very appreciated. Couldn't have mated that up by myself... too much weight to swing around. I notice a lot of questions about the transaxle. Firstly, I would agree that the 944 N/A transaxle isn't made for this torque, but it hasn't broken yet... thankfully I'm still running stock suspension, and the squatting is probably the only saving grace for this trans. I plan on upgrading to a 951 LSD transaxle, which I'm going to swap my N/A 5th gear into to get a higher top speed as the N/A 5th is longer than the 951 5th. Then suspension, bushings, bearings, and wheels. After that, every mechanical system other than the torque tube will have been replaced.
