The Callaway Turbo is back
It hasn't sold since it was last discussed here a few months ago.
Here it is on craigslist today: http://honolulu.craigslist.org/big/car/774308442.html
And here it was discussed months ago. https://rennlist.com/forums/924-931-944-951-968-forum/392200-callaway-944-turbo.html

I was a Callaway Turbo dealer in Hawaii back in 1982. We turbocharged 50 cars with VW Callaway Kits. It was always a dream to do a 944 but no one wanted to spend the $8500 locally. There was even a 190e kit for the Mercedes. On Hawaii's limited roads we were able to go over 165mph with 2 Callaway cars. A GTi and a Scirocco. The Scirocco was the 5th Callaway Car that Reeves himself put together. When the owner moved to Hawaii he had us redo the engine and trans "to beat his friends 911" which of course we did, it was able to go the quarter in 12.85 and beat the 911 in top speed. Our "Shop" car was able to hit 11.81 in the quarter in 1991 when FWD cars were not suppose to go that fast!

Damn I wish I have the money/space for it.

When I had the kit on my car, I think I was around 320hp. Mind you, this was at over 15psi and the wastegate was set at full tension. I was able to do 13.5-13.7 in the 1/4 mile. Speedo got up to 165mph with four adults in it and with 18" Kinesis Supercups wheels.
The downside to this unit is the turbo is only oil cooled and they need to get rebuilt more often. The first turbo I had on it was the IHI RHB6, which lasted about 10,000 miles.
I think some of the info might be available on Callaway's website. In case anyone is wondering about Callaway, he made the Sledgehammer, the fastest production car from 1988 until '99. It recorded just under 250mph top speed at the Ohio Transportation Research Center.

go for it.
design pictures are right there in the catalog, you could make a 4-1 log manifold of that size just by scaling things based on that picture. it would be nice if you started with a 951 longblock because then the internals are already beefed up. if you hung the turbo off the side like the callaway it would remove alot of complicated plumbing and the weight of that metal.

Oh yeah, I'm also interested in your planned build. When do you plan on starting? What exactly do you have planned? Any ideas you're willing to share?

im going to be running the SC at twice engine speed with a toothed belt (to avoid slippage) and be running around 18psi. i might fabricate my own intake manifold if i can find a tig machine to use. ill be running some bigass injectors (36lbs to start, then eventually up to maybe 55+) on a late chipped computer with a maf. i may convert it to ethanol as a few ethanol refineries will be opening around me soon and it is already available at stations in my area. i am also looking at a (m)ethanol injection system if i stick with normal gas.
my goal will be at least 300hp at the crank.

im going to be doing an eaton supercharger setup similar to but not exactly like that of blown944 and dally_de.

Oh- and just as Sting and The Police sand back in 1983 on the song Every Breath You Take... I'll be watching you (and your build).

Explain your addiction/situation to Arnold in a polite letter. Explain to him how you look to him to finance your Porsche ways. I'm sure he'll help. Haven't you seen his movie "Hercules in New York"?.... Okay, that has nothing to do with it. If you haven't seen it, go rent it.

I am almost ready to buy on of those $500 kits off ebay and turbo one of the 944 I have. I would do it same as the 944 Turbo and run the turbo somewhere else and utilise the stock exhaust manifold. I have seen the brazillian turbo that comes with that kit. it is cheap and it works. If I do that I will definitely write a story on it.
