Default Callaway 944 Turbo

... and this one. A Golfer's Special? at first I thought it was Calloway (as in Corvette), but it's not. I've never heard of it, but I'm new to this marque.

Is this thing worth what he's asking?

I would have to guess it is worth that simply because of the rarity.

I'm pretty sure its a typo on the ad - I think it is the Calloway that now does corvette stuff.

Those are pretty rare, there are a few listers with them.

There was on on ebay 1-2 years ago.

That's funny because I'm pretty sure the print version of this ad that appeared a few weeks ago in the local paper referred to it as a Golfer's Special. I'm not a golfer so I wouldn't automatically make the connection between Callaway and golf clubs, my nature is to think "Vette".

Interesting about the Callaway connection, but I've gotta think the maintenance on a 1-out-of-38 in existence turbo can't be too easy. Might as well just keep waiting for the right 951.

That's pretty interesting. But let's be realistic -- 285 hp out of only 10 psi?! pleeease.

But it IS Reeves Callaway, after all. He's not reality. He's guru. Even back then apparently. See the links posted by aribop.

At any rate, there's alot to turn me off to this Callaway (price, maintenance, the full-length rubber side guards), so I think I'll be moving on. Thanks for the input, listers.

2.5 liter with 285 hp back in 1983!? This car can still hang with the regular street cars today. However, I agree with GloriaRedStang that the maintenance would be a turnoff.

i would look into the car and the value of the car. i just read in sports car market that one of the big auction houses will be having an auction on one of the islands in the near future. if that car could be purchased at the right price, cleaned up a little bit, it may turn a nice profit at the auction.

think barrett jackson on speed in january.

i had some calloway parts on my Z28. there is a blood connection between reeves of car fame and the golf club part of the conglomorate known as calloway golf.

285 out of 944 2.5liter engine @ 10 psi is valid. I turbocharged my euro spec '83 924 NA engine to 1 bar and got 250 crank hp/320 Nm. Considering very crappy flowing 924 head to much better 944 head and engine, the result 285 hp is totally ok, even with just a mere 10 psi.
