i must say I like the look of the 944 more than most 928s. I like the 928S but the 928 s4 kind of looks odd. I parked next to a 928s4 once and I thought it looked like a really strange car, I liked the design of the 944 better.

Put a magnet to your fender and you will find that its aluminum sheet metal, not steel. Let me see, whats cheap with a 944 comparatively... where do I start? The cheap plastic used in the late dash trims like the a/c face, hazard light switch that always breaks through the dash, the broken digital clocks, the broken door panel pockets where they flop around, or the broken hinge in the center consol are some of the things at the top of my head. How about the broken sunroof gears, broken sunroof clips, and the power window switches on the late cars where the clip rips through cardboard door panel causes to switches to dangle? Broken spring for the trunk cargo cover seems to be standard on 944s. That and the cheap hatch frame that always separate from the glass and not lined up properly causing hard close and opening of the hatch is another cheapness of a 944 thats nowhere to be found on a 928. Where do I end? The 928 dash is all leather in most of the 928s not cheap plastic that is ALWAYS cracked in a 944, thus a uncracked dash is the holy grail of any 944 early or late. I can write a book on the 944 cheapness.

Compared to a Honda, the 944 feels solid, but not to a 928. There is a reason why the 928 costs twice as much as a 944 when they were new.

well what do you expect the 928 was sort of a supercar back then and a 944 was an entry level porsche.

the 944 was a huge improvement over the 924. I agree the early 944 with the 924 interior does look horribly cheap. The 944 interior looks great for a 20 + year old car imo. The 928 inteior / dash are even nicer obviously.

The 944 was really an improved 924 which many didn't even consider a porsche and they just basicly took one side of the 928 motor and stuck it in a 924 with bigger fenders.

For some reason everytime I see you post a reply in some threads, you always seem to be bashing on the 924/S. I don't care or anything, just wanted to know if you have some wierd hatred for 924's? Lol.

As for the 928 thing, I would love to have one. I don't think the early 928's are the best looking, but they are starting to grow on me. I like the S4's, but they all seem to be the same. I hardly ever see a wierd cool color combination, or rare options on them. At least the majority of the early 928's had leather dash, center console's, ect. But I guess you could always send a S4 to Paul or Robb. lol.

Other than cracked dashes, the early 944 interior holds up better than the late other than the stupid visor clips which are totally junk (both late and early) which is another part of the cheap plastic interior I forgot to mention. The power window switches are secured better, the manual sunroof has no gears to break or microswitches to go bad, the clocks don't spontaneoously crack/malfunction, the early odo are more reliable than the late odo, and the hazard light switch never fails.

lol. well the 924S isn't really a 924 it's a 944 with a 924 body.

I used to own an old school 924 with the audi motor and I ended up hating it and sold it and got a 944 which is a much better car.

and about 928s I'd buy one if I had the time and money to maintain one as a daily driver. The main thing i like about the 928 is the big prosche v8 with a nice exhaust they sound sweet unlike the 944.

Everyone thinks my 944 is an electric car because all you hear is the whinning of the balance belt and it sounds like an electric motor lol.

Yeah, but the only thing that the Haynes manual is good for on a 944 is to put underneath an oil drip to keep your garage floor clean. As a technical source, it might be helpful if you don't have a corn cob to refer to.

(Does it show that I'm not impressed with the Haynes manual?)

Really? The solid --thunk-- is something many people comment on when exiting / entering my 928.
I agree the 944 has a very solid feel, just never felt otherwise about the 928.

The car I posted about is the 15psi version. I'll post they dyno chart of the 30+psi version soon.

I work for the company that builds these cars (Murf928), if that matters to you.

Hunh, for some reason, 11 mpg came to mind. I must have been thinking of something else - might have been an old 928 for sale ad that I looked at a while back.

Just for kicks, I checked the EPA website for an '89 S4 and it showed 20 mpg hwy (and was subject to the gas guzzler tax back then)

Yeah, I know, who buys a porsche for the gas mileage?

I actually like the 928 styling except for those headlights.

I like the 928 interiors. They've always looked like you're sitting in some 80s science fiction rocket ship. I'd love to have the power but I don't like the styling. It's grown on a me a little over years and my chance of wanting to own one went from about 1% to about 5%.

Last year Tim Murphy and I took our 928's (mentioned in post #18) on a 900 mile road trip. His car with the A/C on averaged about 21-22mpg with my car closer to 17.

The 87+ cars are more aerodynamic with better gearing for highway (2.20 versus 2.73). The taller gears started in 1985 (US).
Even with a stock US early 16V car the 2.73 gears are too short, I'm not sure what Porsche was thinking. I have a 2.20 ready to be installed once I source an LSD.

I personally think the 944 interiors look better. They where so clean and simple that they seem to be timeless. But the 928 is cool I will give you that.

Price an intake R&R, $1500 in new parts.. why use old parts?

Rode in Mr Swift's S4 at AX, the car moves well and is a handfull, but the interior real-estate is worth it. His car is in top shape.

I've had a great time playing with '28's on fun runs and thanks to the modding capabilities of a 951 and have held well with the 99x crowd during our scoots.

Get one of each... mod the 951 and SC the S4, done.
