The FSM says my 944S has a curb weight of 2822 lbs. Yeah, it could be wrong - but probably not by 300 lbs.

Still, 928s are damn cool in my book

I'm having a hard time finding documentation, but I believe the 928 is at least 500 lbs heavier than the late car, and more like 700 more than the pre 85.5.

My 1981 supercharged 928 with 10x18" wheels, full tank of gas is 3,300lbs
Power is just a hair over 400rwhp.

My friends 1988 with the same engine mods on the same scale is 3,500lbs. His car also puts down over 550rwhp.

If I compare my parents 91 S4 vs my 88 Turbo S both in stock from the 928 is heavier and feel such. Tossing into tight corner is more of an effort than the Turbo S. Speed is about the same on both cars, but the 928 as much more torque to pull you out of corners. Still it is more at home on long fast sweeping corners than 30-40 mph switchbacks. Even so it does pretty well. The Turbo S can run in the tight stuff and sweepers, but is no where near as comfortable to drive. The 928 is very very nice car, but less sporty and more GT like. If I had to choose between the Turbo S and 928S4 as daily driver and long distance car the 928 gets the edge. For fun weekend car the Turbo S wins.

But on a 944 I can change the headgasket in less than a day, I can swap a tranny in a few hours, etc, and simple things to like I don't cut my hand on the fender lip trying to remove the radiator cap. But then the 944 oil filter isn't friendly at all. We all defend what we like, both cars are good and bad.

I think the 944 is more solid, there's nothing cheap about it except the early dash and console. The 928 doors are heavier but they don't close any more nicely than a civic I had, while the 944 doors feel like (or better than) many other 80s german cars I've driven, even feels better than my mercedes.

IIRC 928 fenders are sheet metal, at least on my '83 S it was.

I saw lart back...

Dyno charts and scale measurements or it never happened.

My friend has a beater *** GTI that can WALK any 928.... But who gives a crap? It's like saying you're friends with a pornstar like it has any direct proportionality to the size of your equipment.

my buddies dad had a 90 S4 (i think) auto. when I had my first S2 and it was a DD my wife drove the S2, Legend Coupe, and RX7 convertible daily taking turns each day with a different one during the summer.

one day my buddy stopped by in the 928 and my wife took it to run an errand. she came back saying she didnt want one because it felt too big, too heavy and not nimble enough.

What she didnt know is thats how i felt the first time i drove it and those feelings go away after a while with the car and after a while behind the wheel it feels as small and nimble as the fofo - well almost as small and nimble. the 928 is a truly remarkable car.

That's a big except. I put up with the cheap creakingrattlingsqueaking interior because I'm not DDing the car for much more than 2 years. An Elise has next to nothing for an interior, but sometimes I wonder if that's a good thing when you have a firm suspension.

My brother's S2 is much better assembled. It has better response and growl, but, by the seat of the pants, it doesn't feel much faster than my 83..it's not a 951. It is more rev-happy. After really trying one out, I couldn't see going to an S2 based on driving dynamics- it's a step backward in poise and handling feel compared to my 83.

I imagine going to a 928 is like an S2, only more so. More comfortable, more go, less feedback (in a street car).

The most technically superior car in the 70s and most of the 80s. They are a marvel of engineering. Bone stock they run with the E36 M3 which was BMWs best in the late 90s.

Catfood, I notice in your avatar that you run your car in the snow. How do they perform in the winter? If I get another car I was considering running my na as a daily all year long, but it dosen't seem right some how.

the 928 is the "better" car because it cost more and it's more of a luxury sports car which I like. The v8 is also obviously nice over the 4 banger.

other than that the 944 is much more economical, less gas, easier to work on other than the clutch, cheaper parts. Also I think the 944 has much more support. They don't even have a haynes manual for the 928, so you have to get the workshop manuals.

the 944 is pretty easy to work on, well everything except the damn clutch.

Also like 90 percent of 928s are automatic. Although still a nice car, I wouldn't want an automatic porsche.

These cars are engineered so you can use snow chains they are built for the winter, just throw some snow tires on them! .... sorry for the off topic

I've taken a few apart. And even 1 or...1 back together....

Solid, yep. Robust, Yes.

heavy - sure with worn out shocks, springs, rubber bushings, and tie rods/rack - it will handle a bit lumbery.

Fix that and it will be just fine.

I love the car. I think. I have to finish it and make sure.
