we may never know why Marquito abandoned his nice project.

sorry, deserved praise must be tempered with a few footnotes on this one....

what other conclusion can we draw but that he got it 2/3 done and abandoned it.....

obviously, he got up a buttload of ambition, had at least the lion's share of a clear plan, and had the ***** to do what were, far and away, the most difficult parts of it — and the result wasn't too far short of spectacular....

then he simply walked away.... what, 20, 25 hours short of completion ?

we're talking, at the worst, just a few more pieces sent out to the leather upholstery specialist and re-installed back on the car ($$$)... if you lose the desire do it yourself, all you have to do is fess up to someone local and pay him to put up the finished pieces.

Sorry but, based on what we're seeing as the long-term result — you posted your project way too soon — just as i did with my front air-dam project....

(which i promise is gonna get done before the end of february)....

have to admit, the color combinations are stunning.

NOT ABANDONED. Car requires too much other work before the swap can be complete.

I just need to finish the wiring harness, a/c lines, and new carpet to be finished.

a few years back before i owned a porsche, i looked at a 924s near my house that was for sale. I would swear it was a late interior in that car, and he said the window switch was bad and the new one sure looked like a late style from recollection. Never realized it until the car was long gone, i sure would like to have went back to check it out again.

It is more work than most people realize. I commend Marcquito for the work he has done so far as 99.9% of the people who started this project never got anywhere close to where he is right now.

Its simple how they made the 924S with the late model interior. Notice they didn't use the 924S chassis like the "normal" 924S. They used a late model 944 chassis and used 924 fenders and quarter panels. Even the door rubber in front of the B pillar is the elongated rubber piece with the 944s. The front windshield is from a late 944, not the 924S or 924 as its larger to accommodate the late dash. The door panels are from a late 944, which means the door shells are from a 85.5+ 944 and not the early 944 or the 924S.

Again, I believe you will spend a fraction of the amount of time/money to just buy a late model 944 as opposed to trying to convert one.

Thats exactly what it is LOL. The late 944 has a different size tunnel where the torque tube goes than the early ones of the 924S so the carpet is even different.

Okay I'm too lazy to read any of the other pages in this thread but it looks like from the pic at the top of this page he was putting a late airbag dash in an early car with 968 door panels and early seats?

dunno. but i suspect bmw. or some other ride was involved. i just can't recall when he had posted with a hint that he had moved on.

i recently skimmed through about 4,000 threads from the past 3 years ago to 2 years ago, pulling out my favorites into a folder.... and i'll be bumping the really good ones soon...... i still have about 8,000 to go to get to the present day.... you'd be shocked at how many 944 owners from just a couple years ago seemed really dedicated, yet it appears, they're no longer involved with 944s. (that's what i'm guessing anyway).... i believe these cars are dying out fast.... one more reason why i'm a big LSx fan. i'm really uneasy about what the future holds for the 944, but i think having a monster engine that's far-less of a drama queen gives our cars a far-better chance for long term survival.

yep... here it is.... indeed, he caught the beemer bug.

this is the biggest reason why i used to post (and take a lot of criticism) about being more cautious and suggesting about not moving forward with said rides (in such far-gone condition... that the people would post about, get started, and a few months later disappear)..... when for just a couple of thousand dollars more, they could have ended up with much better cars... many first 944 purchases are really, just parts cars... and they should be cut up for the benefit of having a good used parts resource, and the wrenching experience.... then, like six months or a year later they can return to the forum with a good running 944 but also with a boatload of goodies sitting out in the shed.

would have been great to see Marcquito's car finished.

Mine would have been a parts car... I really like the feeling that I saved a car from the junker though...
