So right when I get the car (951) a few weeks ago I waxed it with Meguiars Gold Class Paste Wax (I always use it on the M3 and it works very very good) and I waxed the front end like the hood front fenders etc. And it worked fine. But when I started on the back portion of the car like the (beautiful) rear fenders when I removed the wax and looked at my towel there were traces of orange and some red on the towel!!! (my car is Gaurds Red btw) And today I waxed the portion where the keyhole for the hatch is and there were also feinght traces of orange on the towel.
It seems like onli the rear quarter of the car is "fading" because the front end is fine...is this normal (maybe because it is such an old car?)

Has the car been partially re-sprayed?
The Guards in the rear portion is probably the original and front has been repainted. The metallic paints were color fast because of the clearcoat but perhaps the Guards cars were not.
In any case, just keep it well waxed. I have used only pure carnuba wax for 19 years on my 84 and the paint looks "as new".

I believe the only colors that were not clearcoated were Red and White.
Either the rear is just more oxidised than the front and thats why it was coming off, or at one point the front was re-painted. You might want to try a cleaner / polish like Meguires step 1 to equilize the color then wax.

If your color's fading, use 3M Medium Compound, then 3M Imperial Hand Glaze, then some good wax (Maguiars), and the sucker'll look like new and keep the bad away...
Paint should come off when you compound/polish/glaze but not when you wax.

GR, White and Black were not clearcoated on your car. I agree with the others that the car has probably been resprayed on the front and thus the reason the front did not rub off.

I haven't bothered waxing my car because it so desperately needs a whole new paint job, but the rear of my car has faded pretty badly. Pretty much everywhere thats fiberglass looks awful. You can actually see the fiberglass texture, I'm not sure whats been done as far as paint though. I'm sure something's been repainted, but I can't tell what has and what hasn't.
