Default OK...now what? Removing dead animal!

I'm embarrased that my first post after joining rennlist.com is about this, but I have no idea how to proceed. Here's my problem:

Some animal has crawled up here and died. And I have no idea how to get it out!

Here are some more pics:

Honestly, I don't know how to proceed, and what might have to be removed to get whatever this is out. It is really tucked in there. Oh, and this isn't a joke.

Any help? Please let me know!

Thanks,

Nick

That kinda looks like the insulation on the body.

I was going to say the same. I think it's just the fibers in the heat resistant insulation have come apart and make it look like furry feathers.

I think I recall something similar under my 83. Nothing to worry about, unless you want to replace the insulation.

Yeah I thought I had a burned/frayed O2 sensor wire on my 928 but when I crawled under there it was just insulation fibers sticking down.

You guys are no fun!

That's definitely a dead animal. Wrap some wood chips in perforated foil and place around your exhaust pipe. Go for a drive for 40 min. maintaining a high rpm to keep the heat between 325F and 350F. When the rodent is nicely browned, it should pull apart easily. Season and enjoy!

nasty - if that is a dead animal just pull it out w/ a full body suit and mask. My buddy had that happen to his escort and all i can say is to get it out you would have to remove the a/c pump and alternator- and it was real stinky. You getting some smell?

OK...so perhaps I panicked.

I didn't know about the insulation, but if that's true, it'd explain why it doesn't stink. I've had the car for a week, but it' been driven very seldom in the past two years.

And, if it's insulation, what should I do about it? I don't want it to get wet or caught in something.

Thanks,

Nick

If it weren't for the pinkish skin-looking stuff on the underbody, I'd say it was definitely insulation. But damn if the red stuff doesn't make it look like some godawful massacre.

Its definitely insulation. I had enough of that crap on my arms from that fiberglass junk every time I get to do a clutch. Makes you itch much more than a dead animal. If its a dead animal, you would have smelled some meat cooking as it sits on the exhaust.
