Default Newbie with a 83 2.5 lux supercharger project!

Hi all!!

Newbie here and here's the car.

Its an 83 2.5 lux. I bought it for £800 as an off the roader but it didn't take much to recommission it.

It had been off the road for about 5 years during which it had a respray and a few new exterior panels due to an accident but its owner passed away before she could drive it again which sucks.

Since getting it I got the bug for it big time and then proceded to spend money on certain areas.

So far its had new front psrings (stiffer and lowered) and koni shocks all round. M030 fornt and rear anti roll bars, boxster front calieprs and drilled turbo front discs, 968 rear calipers and discs,, cup 1 wheels, a kla strut brace, 968 rear beam, Dansk exhaust (centre and rear), plus various other bits and bobs replaced to make it feel tight again.

All this adds up to a gorgeous handling car but as always, not enough power.

I did get a 968 motor for it but after hearing loaaaaaaaaaaaads of horror stories about massive repair bills for that motor I decided to take a different route.

Most at this point will say buy a 951 or similar but I'm so far gone and attached to this one that I can't!

I've now acquired an SN93 Paxton blower and that combined with the spare engine I have (acting as a template) my mill and my lathe will hopefully give me the poke I want.

I want to build a low blow setup with intercooler and megasquirt or emeral ecu controlling it all.

Ref this I have a question!

The 951 intercooler, can I fit it to my early car? If so how do you remove the badge panel? I heard it was screwed on but mine appears to be spot welded on so I'm a bit stuck unless 'm missing something!!!

Also, does anyone know of a front splitter for an early bumpered car?

I have a spare rear one. . . . . .

Why do you guys have to have those nasty ones with the huge rubber bits on them?

Very nice car.

On early cars, the header panel was spot welded in place. So in order to remove it you need to drill out the spot welds, then use sheet metal screws or something simular to reattach it.

See http://www.clarks-garage.com/ , in the "Garage Shop Manual" under "Nose Panel".

Thats one beautiful car.

I have an 83' and just finished removing my welded header panel. There were something like 20 spot welds on it so the removal process was pretty ugly. I ended up taking a rather large drill bit and drilling at each weld until it was gone.

If I were you I'd just pop in the 968 motor. You'll be much happier.

Thanks for the replies!

Welded in!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Nuts, that gonna be fun, does anyone know if the cooler will fit under it though? Maybe I could get it in via another passage (sounds a bit rude that eh!) with the bumper removed?

The 968 motor would be nice but too costly if it goes wrong. I can get another 2.5 motor for £100 if mines goes bang.

Ref the rear bumper its worthless over here (although the 944 breakers will disagree as they're money grabbing gits) so if someone wanted to cover the postage I'll just send it too them.

the entire front frame under the nose panel is different between an early NA and a turbo car.

your car looks gorgeous...myself and a few other guys on here have been looking at supercharging our cars as well. best of luck.

how much for that bumper btw? haha

Btw, when you decide to cut off your header panel, this is what you'll be getting in to..

V2, he's not planning on changing it out to a Turbo / S2 panel, he's planning on opening it up and venting it?
