Default B&B Cat-Back on my S2

Rather than steal Charlie's thread, I figured I would make a new one since I had some interest from others in my exhaust. Plus I have pictures, and a video! (as long as someone can tell me how to rotate a quicktime video and where to upload it)

It was mentioned in the last thread by Charlie that B&B didn't make an exhaust for the S2. The exhaust on the B&B website shows a 4 bolt flange, however, the turbo exhaust has a 3 bolt flange on it. The exhaust on my car is a 3 bolt flange (both coming off the cat, and on the B&B system - pictures to illustrate this). It seems that the turbo exhaust may have been ordered and the factory 4 bolt flange coming off the cat was cut and rewelded to a 3 bolt, or so one would think. However, there isn't a spliced in piece of pipe, or another weld on the pipe; the weld is RIGHT on the joint where the pipe connects to the cat casing. The pipe also matches the color and size of that in front of the cat. Could my car just have been a rare 3-bolt-flange-optioned car?

I love this exhaust, and highly reccomend anyone to get one if they want the best sounding exhaust for their 944. It may be a very pricey purchase for just a cat-back exhaust, but had my car not come with it, I wouldn't think twice about dropping that much. To top it all off, I have the desired oval slash cut tip on my car, which can no longer be bought!

The first picture shows where the pipe is welded to the actual cat and it's casing in red. The yellow is outlined because there aren't any spliced in pieces of pipe or other welds here. This looks completely factory, as the front of the cat is welded in the same spot to the casing

Anyways, on to the pictures!

More pictures of the exhaust and car can be found here https://rennlist.com/forums/924-931-944-951-968-forum/384424-so-i-took-some-pictures.html

Looks sharp Cory! I miss mine but the new owner is happy with it. To my knowledge the the 951 has the 4-bolt flange and the NA 944's all had 3-bolt flanges. The 951 system also does not have the resonator tube in the catback pipe either, but the NA systems from B&B do. I think this was for extra sound control seeings how the turbocharger acts as a muffler as well.

When I spoke to B&B and they said they did not make a kit for the 944S2 they might have been inferring that they did not have a catback that has the little pre-muffler like the OE or Dansk exhaust does. But it certainly looks like Cory's fits well.

I would love to hear the video.

I will have to dig around I may have some pictures of my B&B.

Take care!!

Ahh, ok. Yes, they show both 3 and 4 bolt flanges on the website. It's kind of misleading as to which is which.

Is your cat a 3 bolt flange or 4?

I can post the video up on youtube, but it needs rotated to correctly show off the car

Hans probably dropped it on the assembly line and had to make a quick fix...

I need someone to tell me how to rotate the video and where to host it. I don't have quicktime pro, so I can't edit in quicktime format. Any advice?

Not the best site, but their player can automatically rotate video:
http://loadup.ru/
No viruses or anything of the sort for me, I can't wait to see this, exhaust is on the short list.

Cory, I do not have a cat currently on my S2 but my early 944 had a 3-bolt flange and when I bought the B&B second hand out at the Hershey, PA swap meet it was for a turbo and had the 4-bolt flange. If you look at Lindsey, SFR, Fabspeed, ect all thier turbo catbacks have the 4-bolt flanges.

Looking forward to the symphonic howl of that exhaust!

Very nice! I'm going to get a new cat back next year. Still don't know what I'll go with. I might have a local shop weld one up for me but that set up looks very nice!

+1 for the B&B. My car came with one and I can say that I would not replace it for any of the others out there. From comparisons it performs and sounds better.

I'll get the video uploaded later tonight guys. The video isn't that amazing (shot on my blackjack), but when I rev the car up you can hear it, hard to hear the idle though. Other then that, I'm waiting on a call back and possibly going to look at an 88TS!

That is a B&B muffler attached to a stock catback pipe. In fact it was too short and kept coming apart, so it was spot welded to keep it together. It is not what you would consider a full cat back replacement.

Really? I saw where it was spot welded. However, I thought it was a full replacement, as it has the same resonator in place and same bends as the B&B, not to mention it's 2.5". Isn't stock S2 piping 2.25"?

Also, when comparing the "cat-back" to the the pipe before the cat, there is an obvious difference in pipe material and color.

I sure don't recall using the full catback. We had to notch the darn pipe to make it fit the muffler, which was a pain in the butt. It has been quite awhile. My memory could be slipping.
