Hi -- got this engine for free -- tearing it down shows the following:
Sand in the bores, pistons frozen solid, slight ridge at top of bores. Head grimey and covered in goop. Cam and followers frozen solid.
Any tips on freeing them?
Are they even worth attempting to clean up?

I have to ask, how does one get sand in the bores? If you are serious about resurrecting that block set it straight up, soak the bores in standing PB Blaster or Kroil, let it sit for a day or two and take the biggest impact wrench you can to the crank bolt. A breaker bar will do just that, break something. A 500 ft-lb impact will slowly break the tension and free it up. You can assume that the pistons will be severely pitted around the ring area and the rings will be difficult to remove but it's worth a shot.

nope -- no joke -- I have NO idea how this much sand found its way into this block. The intake was off, but it was stored sitting up --atleast thats what PO said.
I got it for free so it doesn't really need to be fixed -- but I was thinking of rebuilding this one and simply swapping it into the car.... I kinda like the resleeve and 2.8 program -- perhaps with MS and a supercharger (just to be diff)?
Also -- there is no crank bolt -- anyone tell me what the size is on that?
