dammit Mazda!
some guy parked his P.O.S. dented, rusty RX7 next to my 951 in the parking lot here at work. The lot's full and I'd have to park on the other side of the building to get away from IT.
'nother reason why I'm not a fan of rice burners...nothing original. All ripoffs.

Hey - I used to own an 86 RX-7 before I moved to the US (Porsches are unaffordable for normal folks in Germany). No, it wasn't rusty or dented. But it was probably one of the most fun cars I've ever owned... it handled like a go-kart (had speed sensitive steering and a rear axle that steered like on the 928), the engine was incredible, and it was pretty well made. Only downsides were extreme cross-wind sensibility, and no AC on the German version. I owned it for two years, and sold it back to the dealer when I moved to the US (14 years ago). The dealer deducted the cost for two rear tires - they were blank on the outside (that tells you how I drove that thing).
For everyday driving, the RX-7 was great; otherwise I prefer my 928, of course!

I owned 7 RX-7s. Collectivley the cost of depreciation, gas, and repairs was probably less than the repairs on my 944. What is the definition of POS?
If only the good lord endowed me with a bigger endowment I would not have had to spend my endowment on a 944 and would be manly enough to still be driving a RX-7.

He didn't say RX-7s were bad cars, just that they were rip-offs
My '80 RX-7 was a blast to drive, but parked next to my '79 924....
If it weren't for the bicycle tire reflectors on my 924 fenders, I wouldn't have known which key to use
The RX-7 was actually (IMO) more fun to drive than the 924!

Actually, before I bought the RX-7, we compared it to a 924S. The 924S was way more comfortable to ride-in, and I felt the steering was more precise. It also had more low-end grunt. But there were too many reasons against it at the time: No service nearby (The Mazda dealer was 2 miles away), the fear of high repair cost, and the interior - the driving position with the steering wheel in my lap was just too odd... So I chose the RX-7, which is very exotic in Germany (no wonder, given the gas prices). It was a very reliable car - engine flooded only once in the two years, and the biggest repair was a leaking injector that required about 4 hours of labor.

but yeah, rip-offs.
And while some of you may have had nice examples of them, this particular one is held together by rust and duct tape (no joke).

Thats probably what my boss thinks about me parking my 944 next to him. Even though i could blow his doors off in a race, and i remind him of that constantly.

rx7's aren't bad vehicles. sure, the engine is a bit tempermental but other than that they are good. the gauges work, the hatch works, usually the sunroof opens. they dont have bad ground problems, the water pump is $80.00 and you dont have to replace it every 6 months. theres no timing belt jobs, no $1300 clutch jobs. the aftermarket is WAY better for them and the parts are cheaper too. They handle just as well if not better. Sure, it is a ripoff of a 944 but both cars have their qualities...but I don't think saying they are P.O.S's is entire accurate.
