How to: Rear seat delete, sound dampeing plus subbox install (56k Die)

In case you need to get in there to replace things.
I used fatmat (good price and easy to work with), then realized that I covered it up and went back and tore out that area. Never know when/if you might need to get in there.
Wheel well is a great place to help quiet things down. I'll try to find some pics tonight. I ended up doing the entire car...front to back in fatmat. Less then $100 with shipping.

Race Car
I used Dynamat in the rear seat area. Then I went to an arts and crafts store and bought a sheet of 2" thick styrofoam. Cut that to the correct contour to fit each "bucket" to make laying the carpet down a little easier. No complex curves to try and bunch the carpet up into. Generic black carpet from Walmart matches some of the stock black carpeting I have, just not the rear hatch piece.

That FatMat looks really good. Is it an adhesive backed butyl rubber with foil face? I've used 6" wide 35mil Polyken that looked very similar. With the Polyken there is no room for error, once it's down it's part of the car forever...Robbie can attest to that. Good job guys.

Yes it is. Easy to put down. Heat gun works great. I was going to go the dynomat route, but buddy of mine who works for Alpine said to use the fatmat stuff. Cheaper, does the same thing, plus adds some heat barrier as well.

You can always do it later. Gotta do whatca can afford to do. The way you did it should cut down on some heat, but not sure about noise. Carpet over it will help as well. My 944 is actually quieter then my GMC. Plus even a decent radio will drown out the road noise anyway. lol
If your going to keep the back seat out, it's a good place for some amps & subs. Someone on here did it and it turned out real nice. I have kids who like to ride it mine so i needed to keep the rear seat otherwise I would of gone that route.

Oh don't get me wrong, listening to the engine scream up to 6399RPM before lifting and hitting the clutch is my favorite thing to do. But on long, drawn out drives where such acceleration isn't possible (ie traffic), music is what keeps me sane.
