cheapest paint? guards red
I'm painting my car and want to know where to get the cheapest guards red paint?
I have this link but the color code for their "guards red" is not the same as is posted on my car.
http://www.smartshoppersinc.com/modi...-finishes.html
Anyone know where to order a small amount of cheap based coat, clear coat, hardener, and reducer?

something like Guards red is probably extremely similar to Chevy's Victory Red, since it is a solid color. But you should be able to go to a Napa or some other autoparts place, one of them usually has a low-end brand of PPG or DuPont paint available

all reds , yellow , and orange ,cost more than say a color like white . its becouse of the pigments used . all reds in base coat clear coat cost about the same in the 125. daller range per qt. i use glasurit in my shop is what porsche uses also vw , audi, and some benz,es . if you like your car and you want it to look good, then dont cheep out . you could go with a single stage paint gob and save some money , or cheeper would be single stage acrylic enamel, or even cheeper alkyd enamel , but i would only use enamels on a dump truck , no i would not even use it on a dump truck . my be a dumpster. over the years porsche has changed the shade of guards red 16 times ,like in 1996 the color code was L80k in 2007 its L84a guards red is just a name . you need to order the color by its color # not its name. if you have questions you would like to ask me about refinishing you can email me on private messages

Gaurd's red is expensive. I bought a quart, and it was like $30.00. that said, you do NOT want cheap paint. go out, get the good stuff.
BTW. Porsche's paint code for gaurd's red is G1/G1
this is where I got it: http://painterssupply.net/
I used PPG DCC acrylic urethane single stage (no clear coat) with the PPG DCX61 high solids hardener, and PPG DT870 reducer. Matches perfectly, sprays nicely and works as promised w/ proper flash times and everything.
Good luck!

I found out that rustoleums red paint is identical to porsches, so yeah, lol umm if you are just doing touch up , it works good! And it stops rust!! Its a win win situation.

I'm looking for a base coat and clear coat.
Where can I get the glausarit? How much is it to cover a whole car? I was told I'd only need a gallon of color and a quart of everything else.

if you just painting the out side of the car , no jams . than 3 qts of base should do and one gal. of clear . red is transparent so it takes more coats of base to cover . you should use a sealer first , you would need 2 qts of sealer to spray one wet coat over the hole car .matterial cost for sealer, base, and clear will run you about 500 to 600 dollars.

If you want a "cheap" paint try Matrix or Valspar basecoat. Just look in the yellow pages for body shop supplies and call around. Don't order paint over the internet..hazmat shipping is expensive. I would suggest avoiding enamels and the like as once you use it in my opinion the car is ruined if you want to put a decent paint job on in the future. Enamels are very unstable and will cause problems later if you go back with base/clear. Good single stage paints don't offer much savings over base/clear and most shops don't use them any more. If you have any dust nibs or sags base/clear is much easier to work with. Rustoleum is oil based and will not be compatible at all with automotive paint...again, it will affect the products you can use in the future.

I painted my race car guards red using a cheap NAPA crossfire brand single stage paint. Worked fine for a race car, but I learned that I will never paint a street car myself. Just too easy to screw it up. Race's car on the other hand... I have no probem painting.
