Default Carpet Install Adhesive Advice

so is the consensus to use "3M Super Trim Adhesive" for a carpet install? Anything better out there?

If you're quite sure the carpet won't be coming out any time soon, you may also consider contact cement.

If you go with the 3M stuff make sure it's at least 90.

I used contact cement but the new stuff isn't anything like the gorilla snot that they used to sell. This stuff is white and watery. It does seem to work though if you apply to both pieces, let stand for a min or two and then put it together.

I used 3m Super 77 on my sons 944 carpet and it worked like a charm. Just make sure the carpet is where you want it before you stick it down.

I am in the process of using velcro strips. I can then pull it up later very easily if I need to.

what exactly was the factory using? it held well i.e. the carpet didn't move around and it was easy to remove without destroying it. I didn't realize the 3M product was that strong.

I actually JUST used this on my aftermarket replacement carpet install I did about 2 months ago. It doesn't FEEL like it works, but once it dries, it's as hard as a rock. The hardest part is getting it to stick initially. You may find that you have to hold the carpet to a particular spot until it sticks (maybe a minute or so).

But I really like the stuff. I think it's the one that comes in a big orange spray can.
