yellow exhaust tip?
hi rennlisters!
Today I push my 924S to 6000rpm several times and after that I can see my new steinless steel exhaust typ going to yellow color(overheated). If the tip change his colour that means there are hundreds of degrees. I understand that my fummes are very hot, because i am running lean. But when i start the car and even after 5 minutes I can smell gasoline all over the car (running very rich).
I have no cat and my O2 sensor is the original one (1987) so is shot for shure.
Can this O2 sensor be the problem? If the sensor is dead, the ECU run on an safety map. I need to know if this map enrich the mixture only at idle or mantain a little rich mixture anytime.
If I adjust the allen screw on butterfly, what is happening?I will preopen the butterfly only for idle or my adjustement will affect even full throttle stage...
Thak you all,
Gratian

ha,ha,you see Alex,I say an universal sensor is 100$,an mercedes or audi original one is over 300...
The point is that I will change that sensor for shure, but I am shure that something else is wrong too and I want to know from the people who have the same problem, what.
Regarding Porsche ownership,I have this car from 1994 and I put in it less than regular people put in their car because I do all the work and I have to buy only parts that must be new...i have a lot of experience now to tell you about Ford ballbearings or talbot break pads, opel vectra filters, even audi 100 ring and pinion...You know what I mean, all this parts are the same for our cars but the price have the brand in it.

There was a post up last night about cross referencing parts. I think Volvo's use that part and NAPA has its own version so you might be able to get it a little cheaper.
Make sure you dont have any vaccuum leaks as well. I would advise against tampering and adjusting the AFM as a starting point. Instead...there is a rotary switch on the back of your computer- it might be covered with a little plastic plug - it can be turned to different positions to create an overall richer or leaner operating condition.
Since the cat is gone I wouldnt be suprised that the changes in backpressure could cause mixture issues. Also, if there was a plastic coating or wax on your tip - that may be why its yellowing.

I put a 944 NA stock chome tip on my 951. This is just the "slip" on type as before there was no tip. Anyway I can polish it nice and shinny and then one track day or even a nice hard run and it turns yellow/goldish. I polish it and it goes silver again. Next hard run gold. My 951 is stock with stock chips and cat.
