Default Buying a car in CT

Hi. I am most likely going to buy a car in CT. I have a PA license and register my cars in PA. I'm trying to figure out how to get the car to PA. Pennsylvania says they dont issue temporary tags for that purpose. They say CT will give me a tag. CT DMV doesnt answer the phone or have any help on the website. I already purchased PA insurance for the car. What do I do next?

ask the owner to drive home with his plates and mail them back to him when you get plates. Just keep a copy of his registration for the car until you get home.

Register it in PA. Bring the plates to CT and drive back home. Legally.

Looking at the CT DMV site, it appears that temporary tags are issued to CT residents, as it requires CT proof of insurance paperwork.

In PA you need the car or a tracing of the VIN and the title to register it. What if I want to decide on the spot and take the car?

You can rent a Uhaul + tow dolly or car trailer for pretty cheap. There are quite a few Rennlisters who have towed their 944s using this method.

According to your DMV, PennDOT require a VIN trace (you can substitute a photo, but it has to be certified). Sounds like there's no way to get this done (legally) 'on the fly' if you expect to drive it home same-day.
Good luck...

Mello,

I bought my car in AL and drove to GA, with NO TAGS...
I had the car insured in TX, BEFORE I even went to see / on site purchase.
I had signed/dated Bill Of Sale and Title as documentation of recent change of ownership. PO kept his tags.

In GA, Hennessy Porsche checked out my car. I requested a paper type dealer tag and they gave me a license frame as well!

I was never sooo invisible to the authorities... made me laugh!
I then had a 1000 mile drive home, and next it took a few weeks to get her tags, but I wasn't stopped once.
And that is saying a LOT for 'this neck of the woods!'

No guarantees, just 'how I did it'...
Yes, best to check with YOUR local DMV's.

Best -

DONT let Uhaul know it's a 944 or they wont accept the damage liability due to the front bumper damage potential.

Drive at night with the lights off.

The cops will never see you.

in some states supposedly you can drive w/ no tags or tags that are not yet transfered to the car for 30days if you have a bill of sale and/or title.

if you tell uhaul its a 944 they will NOT rent you a trailer. Tell them its a vw bug.

your buying this one, right?

P-Car in CT

Not to worry they'll never catch you! I drove mine home from NE with no plates no problem. Was going to tow and Uhaul didnt give me any gruff when I reserved a trailer for my 944...must be some local backwards *** prejudice.
