Default auto to manual conversion

ok then, having searched the forum for info on an auto to manual conversion, i found a little and at least have an idea of what i'd need.

https://rennlist.com/forums/924-931-944-951-968-forum/77668-converting-87-944na-from-automatic-to-manual-trans.html

i've found a 944 turbo for sale for not too much money, but it's automatic. i've also found a beat up 85 (don't know if it's 85.5 or not) 944 na parts car for not much money either. now i know i can't use the gearbox from the na, and most likely not the clutch or flywheel either, but can i at least use the torque tube, bellhousing, and other parts to get part of the way there?

am i just barking mad? should i just take the auto and live with it until something better comes along? part out the na and sell the bits over ebay? is this just another pointless thread posted by me?

cheers for any input, lads,

-redmund

An auto 951? I didn't know such an atrocity existed.

If its auto - it must have been converted to that, I thought all 944 Turbos were manual gearbox only - feel free to correct me anyone....
So just convert it back!

RUN from the mutant!! If it is indeed factory, it is the rarest factory turn out of all, and you should preserve it, not convert it.

it'd be a bitch, and expensive. an NA tranny will work in a turbo, but the gearing is WAY different.

I have done two auto to manual conversions. It is not as bad as it seems. It works best if you use cars of the same year and there are a couple of "gotchas" to deal with. As long as you are a pretty good mechanic you should have no problems. the hardest part is cutting the automatic bracket from the torque tune tunnel and knocking out the plug for the clutch master cylinder. other than those two things it isn't too bad. PM me if you get stuck in the middle of the conversion.

I don't believe there are factory auto 951s. List the 7th and 8th digit of the VIN and we can find out of its a real turbo.
