Hi,
Does anyone know if there are still some manufacturers making aftermarket under drive pulley's for our 944's?
Have any of you recently bought and installed them?
Thanks,
CH

I think Broadfoot used to make them, but I don't know if they're still in business or not. About the only thing you can really "underdrive" are the AC, alt and PS. Past that, the t belt drives the waterpump. Probably a better mod would be to ditch the PS setup entirely and go to a manual rack. Eliminates weight and parasitic drag from the pump.

Only belts on my engine goto the waterpump/cam and AC.
Broadfoot did make some awhile ago, but they are no longer in business I believe. Besides, I'd never deal with them anyway.

How hard to drive is the manual steering compared to disconnecting the PS pump belt? It's easy enough to pull that belt off to see what it is like without PS, but I imagine that a manual rack is easier to drive than a disabled power setup.

Manual rack is slightly easier than the PS without a belt. Also, manual is slightly faster lock to lock. The PS sans belt might be an aggravation at very low speed or parking.

Not hard to do yourself if you have access to a lathe. I think the main issue would be if they are balanced from the factory. Any weight reduction you do would upset that and they'd have to be rebalanced.

i'm suprised that almost every single other "tuner crowd" has these products for their cars yet the porsch is sitting quiet, and this goes for some other things as well...

also, anyoen bother taking the alternator apart for fun? ... anyway, those alt pullies are HEAVY, honest to god its like they are made of lead, i think a tiny bit of power and response could be picked up if someone designed a lightweight alt pulley.

also, my car, an 83 944, isnt exactly a "sports" car either, at 2700 lb and 140 hp a typical 240sx could probably put me to shame
the point is, the stock crank and alt pullies on a porsche are heavy. a properly balanced aftermarket unit made lighter will improve performance.
but i guess most porsch guys are all about adding boost rather than tackling the "small stuff"
